Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

The Machine Operator operates and maintains heavy hydraulic equipment used to manufacture steel railroad components, including track panels, anchors, and axles. This role focuses on achieving high production efficiency, maintaining strict quality standards, and consistently following all safety procedures in a demanding industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate hydraulic press equipment, CNC machines, lathes, and grinders to forge or package railroad anchors and other steel components.

  • Monitor machine operations continuously to identify defects in workpieces and adjust settings to improve performance and meet customer specifications.

  • Perform routine and minor maintenance on machinery to keep equipment in safe and efficient working condition.

  • Troubleshoot machine issues promptly to anticipate, identify, and correct quality problems before they affect production output.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and specifications to determine product requirements, appropriate tooling, and correct machine settings.

  • Measure and inspect parts during production using tools such as tape measures and other measuring devices to verify accuracy and quality.

  • Follow all prescribed safety procedures at all times while working around heavy machinery and moving equipment.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area through regular housekeeping activities.

  • Work effectively in a non-temperature-controlled, dusty, and dirty environment where heavy lifting and physically strenuous tasks are common.

  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and support continuous improvement in efficiency and quality.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience operating heavy hydraulic equipment in a production or manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on machine operation skills, including setup and operation of hydraulic presses, CNC machines, lathes, or grinders.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and product specifications accurately.

  • Strong quality control mindset with the ability to detect defects and make precise machine adjustments.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude to perform routine and minor maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues.

  • Proficiency using measuring tools, including tape measures and related devices, to verify product dimensions.

  • Consistent adherence to strict safety procedures while working with heavy machinery.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting and standing for extended periods in a strenuous environment.

  • Comfort working in a non-temperature-controlled facility that may be hot or cold depending on the season.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CNC machine operation in a high-volume production setting.

  • Background in production, assembly, or manufacturing of metal or steel components.

  • Familiarity with quality control processes and documentation in an industrial environment.

  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions and adjust to changing production requirements.

  • Willingness to participate in skill-level and step-based development programs to advance within the role.

Work Environment

Work is physically demanding, involving heavy lifting, standing for long periods, and operating strenuous machinery. Employees are expected to maintain a clean and organized workspace and consistently follow all safety and housekeeping procedures while working around heavy equipment and moving parts.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Taylor Mill, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.50/hr.
