Technical Principal – Water Resources

We have an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Technical Principal – Water Resources to provide technical leadership across high‑profile water projects in New Zealand. Based in Tauranga , within our Regions business, this role offers the opportunity to influence complex, strategic projects while mentoring future leaders and strengthening key client relationships. You will lead technically challenging, high‑impact projects and be recognised as a role model for technical excellence, professionalism and collaboration, playing a key role in lifting capability across our Water team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on water infrastructure projects both locally and nationally

  • Act as Design Manager and Engineer to Contract on major water infrastructure projects

  • Lead and contribute to complex investigations, optioneering, analysis and reporting

  • Apply rigorous technical review and verification practices to ensure high‑quality outcomes

  • Identify, manage and communicate technical risks across projects

  • Support and mentor engineers and designers, fostering a strong learning culture

  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and deliver trusted, value‑driven advice

  • Support bids, proposals and business development activities

  • Actively contribute to the wider water engineering community and industry forums

About you

  • A Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent qualification

  • CPEng registration (or ability to maintain)

  • Extensive experience (typically 20+ years) in stormwater and/or water infrastructure engineering

  • Proven experience leading complex, multidisciplinary projects

  • Strong technical review and problem‑solving capability

  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing others

  • Commercial awareness and a client‑centric mindset

  • Excellent communication skills and professional presence

  • A current, full New Zealand driver licence
