Job Description
The Lead Manager of Cost Accounting plays a key leadership role on the Global Accounting team, overseeing all cost and inventory accounting activities across a complex manufacturing network. Reporting to the Director of Global Accounting Operations, this position leads onshore and offshore teams, ensures compliance with US GAAP and statutory requirements, drives ERP and automation initiatives, and partners closely with cross-functional groups to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful financial information.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership and direction to the Global Cost Operations Accounting team, including managing a team of 4 to 5 onshore professionals and overseeing an offshore team supporting cost operations.
Oversee all accounting and reporting activities related to inventory, reserves, and transfer pricing for the global manufacturing network.
Ensure compliance with US GAAP and other statutory reporting requirements in all areas related to cost and inventory accounting.
Partner with FP&A, Supply Chain, Corporate Tax, Disbursements, and Information Systems teams to ensure accurate accounting of inventory, including providing site-level support.
Collaborate with accounting management to ensure proper application of US GAAP and adherence to company accounting policies and procedures.
Serve as the lead contact for Corporate External Reporting, Corporate Audit, External Auditors, and Tax Compliance teams, providing audit support, reporting analysis, and technical accounting insights.
Lead ERP implementations and enhancements related to Cost and Operations Accounting, including SAP and S/4HANA, ensuring appropriate system design, documentation, testing, and user training.
Drive automation initiatives, including Robotics Process Automation, to streamline cost accounting and operational accounting processes.
Lead projects and cross-functional initiatives to improve cost accounting processes, controls, and reporting quality.
Supervise and develop team members, providing coaching, performance feedback, and opportunities for growth.
Coordinate with outsourced service providers to ensure high-quality, accurate, and timely support for global cost operations.
Prepare and review complex analyses related to inventory, reserves, transfer pricing, and manufacturing costs, providing clear explanations and recommendations to leadership.
Maintain strong internal controls over cost and inventory accounting processes and support continuous improvement of policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders at various levels, including preparing and delivering clear presentations on cost and inventory results and issues.
Essential Skills
Strong people management and leadership skills, including experience supervising teams and contractors.
Advanced cost accounting expertise, preferably within a large, complex manufacturing environment such as the pharmaceutical industry.
Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP, particularly in the area of inventory accounting.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or MBA qualification.
Audit or Big 4 public accounting experience.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver clear presentations.
Ability to bridge cultural differences and work effectively with global and cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience working with general ledger systems, specifically SAP and S/4HANA.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work with minimal direction.
Proven ability to lead projects and work collaboratively across functions such as FP&A, Supply Chain, Tax, and IT.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Cost accounting experience within the pharmaceutical or broader life sciences industry.
Prior experience in a large, global corporate environment with complex manufacturing and supply chain operations.
Experience implementing or enhancing ERP systems, particularly SAP S/4HANA, in cost or operations accounting functions.
Hands-on experience with automation tools, including Robotics Process Automation, to improve accounting processes.
Strong business acumen and the ability to connect operational drivers to financial outcomes.
Proven ability to supervise and develop both onshore and offshore teams.
Interest in a long-term opportunity with potential for contract extension or future growth.
Work Environment
This role operates in a remote work environment aligned to Eastern Standard Time hours, offering flexibility while maintaining close collaboration with global stakeholders. The Lead Manager leads and manages a team of 4 to 5 professionals within the Global Cost Operations Accounting group and oversees an offshore team based in Kolkata, India through an outsourced service provider. Work is highly collaborative and technology-driven, utilizing SAP, S/4HANA, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as ERP and automation tools, including Robotics Process Automation. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a strong focus on accuracy, process improvement, and cross-functional partnership across finance, supply chain, tax, and information systems.

This is a Contract position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $53.00 - $90.00/hr.
