GAF Project Engineer IV in Tampa, Florida

We are looking for a Project Engineer IV to support the Tampa, FL manufacturing site. The Project Engineer IV will be proficient in developing, executing, and controlling assigned projects in support of plant performance goals. With expert application of engineering principles and techniques, the candidate will investigate and clearly define projects that optimize and improve the production capability of the plant. The Project Engineer IV will make sound recommendations, considering factors such as safety, cost, schedule, operability, maintainability, and materials and methods of construction. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, agile, and adept at managing multiple engineering assignments.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Take ownership of engineering projects from conception to completion as self-directed work, applying all areas of engineering expertise to obtain feasible, effective solutions.
● Provide direction, coaching, leadership, and mentoring for less experienced engineers.
● Work with the site team to develop 3 and 5 year capital plans, identifying capital needs, determining the feasibility of solutions, and developing estimates.
● Work with the maintenance and production teams to resolve operational problems and identify new opportunities. Conduct engineering analyses and present recommendations.
● Develop detailed justifications for capital expenditures and prepare project authorization forms with supporting documentation.
● Provide effective, regular communication of project status both verbally and in writing at multiple levels within the organization.
● Perform daily oversight of contractor work and coordinate with plant operations to ensure capital projects are executed efficiently and with minimal interference to manufacturing operations.
● Ensure contractors are performing work in a safe manner and adhering to site safety requirements. Determine the relevant safety policy for the scope of work and issue safe-work permits to the contractor on a daily basis.
● Work closely with Accounting and Purchasing departments to ensure total financial accountability of assigned projects and complete closure.
Level Based Competencies
● Strong project management skills through either formal project management training/certification (such as a PMP certification), or significant demonstrated project management experience.
● Demonstrated experience in directly managing external contractors and ensuring the highest level of safety engagement.
● Strong ability to manage multiple capital projects and engineering assignments and drive progress on multiple capital projects simultaneously
● Excellent communication skills, able to provide effective communication through all levels of the organization.
● Strong technical knowledge in degree field, with a willingness to learn and grow/develop
Required Qualifications:
● BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical)
● 7+ years of demonstrated, relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, including capital project management.
● Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor (or equivalent). Preferred Qualifications: : ● Extensive experience with safety systems to include Lock/Tag/Verify, permitting and behavior based safety programs.
● Design and field experience with variable frequency drives, power distribution, and/or PLCs.
● Experience with material handling, web tension control, process piping, pumps, and mechanical power transmission.

Professional/Technical knowledge & skills related to mechanical engineering and a willingness to grow
Able to communicate technical knowledge/skills
Strong decision-making skills
Proficient in using root cause analysis to troubleshoot and solve problems
Knowledge of manufacturing analysis tools, such as statistical analysis/statistical process control (SPC), process capability studies, lean manufacturing, 5S, Kepner Tregoe, and/or Design of Experiments (DOE)
Advanced proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatics
Ability to execute projects within scope, schedule, and budget
Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask

Proficient in Solid Works
Strong project management skills acquired with either demonstrated project management experience, formal project management training/certification (such as a PMP certification), or a proven track record of actively participating in critical roles of capital projects with positive results.

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.
Base Salary Range: $116,000-$159,500
