Your role and responsibilities
As an Application Architect specializing in Application Modernization, you will design and guide the transformation of legacy systems into modern, scalable, and cloud-native architectures. You will combine deep technical expertise with strategic vision to ensure that applications are restructured, replatformed, or refactored to align with current business needs and future growth. Your primary responsibilities will include:
• Design Modernization Initiatives: Lead the end-to-end architecture of modernization initiatives across cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, and Google Cloud, ensuring scalable and maintainable applications.
• Develop Microservices Architecture: Design microservices, APIs, data models, and integration patterns that support modular applications, and define containerization and orchestration strategies using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Implement CI/CD Pipelines: Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to implement CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks, ensuring robust testing governance and performance optimization.
• Guide AI Adoption: Guide the adoption of generative AI technologies, such as Watson, Azure OpenAI, Bedrock, and Vertex AI, into modernized applications, and develop modernization roadmaps using methodologies like AMM and tools like ICA.
• Ensure Architectural Oversight: Provide architectural oversight for data migration, legacy system integration, and hybrid cloud deployments, ensuring secure, resilient, and compliant systems.
Required technical and professional expertise
• Cloud Platform Expertise: Experience with cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, and Google Cloud, with a focus on designing and implementing scalable and maintainable applications.
• Microservices Architecture Knowledge: Experience with designing microservices, APIs, data models, and integration patterns that support modular applications, as well as defining containerization and orchestration strategies using Docker and Kubernetes.
• CI/CD Pipeline Implementation: Experience with implementing CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks, ensuring robust testing governance and performance optimization throughout the modernization lifecycle.
• Generative AI Technologies: Experience with guiding the adoption of generative AI technologies, such as Watson, Azure OpenAI, Bedrock, and Vertex AI, into modernized applications.
• Modernization Methodologies: Experience with modernization methodologies like AMM (Application Modernization Method) and tools like ICA (IBM Cloud Automation), with a focus on developing modernization roadmaps.
Preferred technical and professional experience
• Cloud-Native Security Expertise: Exposure to designing and implementing secure, resilient, and compliant systems with a focus on cloud-native security and governance. This includes experience with cloud security frameworks, threat modeling, and compliance regulations. Familiarity with security best practices for cloud-native applications is beneficial.
• Legacy System Integration: Exposure to integrating legacy systems, such as RPG, AIX, and Mainframe Z, with modernized applications. This includes experience with data migration, system integration patterns, and hybrid cloud deployments. Knowledge of legacy system architectures and integration challenges is helpful.
• Hybrid Cloud Deployments: Exposure to designing and implementing hybrid cloud deployments, including experience with cloud platform integration, data migration, and system integration patterns. Familiarity with hybrid cloud management tools and frameworks is beneficial.
