Tacoma Community College Environmental Resources Supervisor (Custodian 5) in Tacoma, Washington

Position Summary Positions in this level supervise at least two lower-level Custodians or a total custodial/housekeeping program for an agency/facility/institution with ten or more assigned personnel performing custodial/housekeeping duties.  Positions may lead a custodial, housekeeping, or general maintenance program for a state agency, facility or institution.  Positions may also train subordinates and perform administrative tasks such as recommending budget levels for supplies and equipment, staffing levels, staff training requirements, and department policies and procedures.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Supervises and instructs assigned personnel; 
  • Trains other leads in supervisory techniques, new product and equipment use;  
  • Evaluates performance of crew and reviews their performance evaluations of their crew members; 
  • Evaluates the total work of employees against established standards and counsels them on performance;  
  • Operates a safety program by training crew members in safety and maintains a follow-up program on accidents and safety prevention techniques;  
  • Meets with vendors to learn about new products, makes product tests and recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and machinery;  
  • Prepares a variety of reports such as analyses of custodial workloads, service requirements, and employee job performance;
  • Ensures that equipment is properly maintained;  
  • Establishes the location of various collection points, collection schedules, records and quality control operations relating to material recycling programs, including necessary contacts with recycling vendors; 
  • Determines staffing needs for buildings; oversees activities in assigned area of responsibility;  
  • Occasionally drives light trucks, vans and other mobile equipment; 
  • May be a working supervisor performing custodial tasks, when required.
