Position Description

Tacoma Power is looking to hire a Data Management and Analytics Intern. In this role you will apply your skills and gain valuable experience working with TPU Energy Efficiency Data Analysts to support the delivery of efficient and reliable pipelines and associated data visualizations. This intern position will participate in researching requirements and analysis for key performance indicators for energy efficiency programs. This role will analyze existing data pipelines to identify recommend changes in both business logic and data integrity. In this roll you will update standard SQL queries following established best practices within the city. Subsequently, this position will use those queries to develop routine reports which will need to be documented for both the logic and the data sources that support those reports and procedures.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate in evaluating and testing data and quality control procedures related to data solutions.

  • Provide recommendations to resolve less-complex system issues.

  • Analyze, maintain, and troubleshoot existing pipelines.

  • Perform data system changes to improve the efficiencies, performance, and reliability of the data procedures feeding our visualizations.

  • Perform data analysis duties using SQL, Python, and R to create sub-queries in a configuration that will allow for visualizing the data in Tableau.

  • Guide the Operations team in creating automated data cleanup routines, validation, and hygiene efforts.

  • Prepare business logic documentation, update manuals, instructions, and operating procedures for any assets created.

  • Communicate with in ternal customers; provide information, troubleshooting, and assistance involving system processes and procedures.

The hours for this position will be 40 hours per week. The term of this position is expected to be one year.

Qualifications

An equivalent combination to:

G raduation from high school or GED. Typically, the applicant should be enrolled in college or study programs related to information technology or possess equivalent experience.

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
