Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating a variety of CNC and manual machining equipment to produce precision components that meet strict quality and customer specifications. You will work independently from programs and blueprints, perform accurate measurements, and make necessary adjustments to maintain high standards of accuracy and precision in a machine shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Properly select and use manual mills, lathes, drills, and other shop equipment in accordance with on-site training and safety procedures.

  • Safely set up and operate 3, 4, and 5 axis vertical and horizontal CNC mills, including installing tools, fixtures, and materials.

  • Independently select and load appropriate CNC programs from the network to run production jobs.

  • Understand and edit G code and M code in CNC programs to optimize machining processes and correct issues as needed.

  • Execute precision machining operations to meet customer specifications and work order instructions.

  • Produce and inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards, making adjustments to equipment or processes as needed to maintain accuracy and precision.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T to determine machining requirements and tolerances.

  • Use micrometers, calipers, bore gages, height gages, and other precision measuring tools to verify part dimensions and quality.

  • Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain consistent production quality.

  • Operate related shop equipment such as drill presses, grinders, shears, and other machinery as required for the job.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience operating CNC mills, including 3, 4, and 5 axis vertical and horizontal machines.

  • Proficiency with manual machining equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, and shears.

  • Ability to independently select and load CNC programs from a networked system.

  • Working knowledge of G code and M code with the ability to understand and edit CNC programs.

  • Strong blueprint and engineering drawing reading skills, including the ability to interpret GD&T.

  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and height gages.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce and inspect precision parts to tight tolerances and quality standards.

  • Troubleshooting skills for resolving machining and equipment issues.

  • Solid understanding of general machining practices and safe machine operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a production or job-shop machine shop environment.

  • Familiarity with setting up tools, fixtures, and materials for a variety of part types.

  • Ability to follow detailed work order instructions and customer specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.

Work Environment

This position is based in a machine shop environment that utilizes a range of CNC mills, manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, shears, and related machining equipment. Work involves standing at machines, handling metal materials, and operating precision measurement tools throughout the shift. The setting is production-focused, with an emphasis on safety, proper use of equipment, and maintaining clean and organized work areas. Standard shop attire suitable for a machining environment is expected, including appropriate protective gear as required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tacoma, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $46.00/hr.
