Location: Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR) Facilities (Harbor Heights and Woodinville Community Facility)
The Career Coach is the heartbeat of the MyJOB program, delivering high-impact Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) inside secure JR facilities using the LaunchPad approach. You'll help young people turn their lived wisdom into professional assets by building real skills, portfolios, and documentation that support competitive employment and successful reentry.
This is not a therapeutic role. It's a workforce development role focused on skill-building, career readiness, and measurable outcomes aligned to Employment and Education Training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1) Classroom Instruction & Curriculum Delivery (40%)
- Facilitate MyJOB workshops aligned to the five required Pre-ETS categories:
- Job Exploration Counseling, Workplace Readiness Training, Self-Advocacy Instruction, Postsecondary Counseling, and Work-Based Learning.
- Teach core employability competencies, including:
- Resume development ("The Professional Story")
- Interview skills ("The 30-Second Commercial")
- Financial literacy and workplace expectations
Use interactive strategies (role plays, mock interviews, team challenges) to support engagement in a trauma-informed learning environment.
2) Individualized Coaching & Planning (30%)
- Administer assessments (Bridge to Self-Sufficiency™ and Positive Personal Profile/PPP) to identify strengths, interests, and barriers.
- Co-create an Action Plan (and support IPE-related planning as applicable) using "micro-steps" (10--20 minute actions).
Build and maintain student portfolios (physical or digital), including resumes, certificates (e.g., OSHA-10, Food Handler), and sample applications.
3) Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordination (20%)
- Coordinate experiential activities such as job shadows, job site tours, and informational interviews (virtual or in-person as facility protocols allow).
- Oversee paid Work-Based Learning Experiences (WBLE) including hour tracking for payroll and documentation.
Support employer engagement (guest speakers, panels) and prepare youth to ask professional questions and practice networking.
4) Compliance, Safety & Documentation (10%)
- Operate by the standard: "If it isn't documented, it didn't happen." Complete required forms accurately, for reporting and enter service data within required timelines.
- Follow all JR facility rules (movement, contraband, supervision).
Maintain strict professional boundaries and adhere to PREA expectations and mandatory reporting.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years in workforce development, education, youth mentorship, and/or reentry services.
- Education: Bachelor's in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Education, Psychology) or equivalent combination of education + relevant lived/professional experience.
Clearance: Ability to pass DCYF/JR and DOC criminal history background check and meet facility access requirements.
