Job Description
The Preventative Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance and service on mechanical and HVAC equipment in commercial and industrial facilities. This role focuses on inspecting electrical and mechanical components, diagnosing performance issues, and completing scheduled maintenance checklists to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. The technician conducts routine testing of amps, voltages, and run temperatures, cleans and services existing units such as walk-in coolers, freezers, and condensers, and supports field service operations by identifying and resolving potential problems before they lead to downtime. EPA certification is not required for this position.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance on commercial and industrial mechanical systems according to established PM checklists and service procedures.
Check electrical characteristics such as amps and voltages on equipment to ensure safe and proper operation.
Conduct run temperature tests and monitor system performance to identify abnormal conditions or potential failures.
Spot and diagnose air and fuel-related issues and other performance problems in mechanical and HVAC equipment.
Clean and service existing units, including walk-in coolers, freezers, condensers, and related components.
Work directly with commercial clients to help diagnose issues, explain findings, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical problems and perform repairs within scope of role and qualifications.
Use tools and test equipment to inspect pumps, compressors, and other mechanical components and verify proper operation.
Document maintenance activities, test results, and any issues found while following the provided service field PM checklist.
Operate a company vehicle safely when traveling between various commercial and industrial client sites.
Follow safety standards and OSHA guidelines while working on mechanical and electrical systems.
Participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks and respond to after-hours service needs during the on-call period.
Essential Skills
1+ years of experience performing commercial and industrial preventive maintenance on mechanical systems.
Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment.
Ability to check and interpret electrical measurements, including amps and voltage regulation.
Experience working with compressors, pumps, and related mechanical components.
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work on various HVAC and mechanical systems.
OSHA 10 certification.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle safely.
Ability to perform service work in commercial and industrial facilities.
Capability to follow structured PM checklists and service procedures accurately.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience performing preventive maintenance on walk-in coolers, freezers, condensers, and similar equipment.
Familiarity with diagnosing air and fuel-related problems in mechanical systems.
Comfort working with basic electrical systems, including measuring amps and voltages.
Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on identifying root causes of mechanical and performance issues.
Ability to communicate clearly with commercial clients about maintenance findings and recommendations.
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks.
Reliability and attention to detail when documenting maintenance and service activities.

Work Environment
This role follows a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The technician participates in an on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks, covering Monday 4:30 p.m. through the following Monday 7:30 a.m., with compensation for any hours worked while on call. Work takes place in various commercial and industrial buildings at client sites, involving travel between locations in a company vehicle. The position involves hands-on work with mechanical and HVAC equipment, including walk-in coolers, freezers, condensers, compressors, pumps, and related systems, as well as the use of electrical testing tools to measure amps and voltages. Uniforms are provided, and an annual boot allowance supports appropriate field footwear.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
