SUNY Upstate Medical University Medical Secretary in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The responsibility of the Medical Administrative Professional is to provide outstanding quality customer service to patients, families, referring providers, departmental physicians and staff and other customers of the office. Perform a variety of secretarial and administrative duties.

  • Schedule patient appointments in Epic and Aria as appropriate for each physician; contact patients to change appointments, as needed

  • Request and obtain needed medical records including notes, exams and tests for all new patients referred from another physician practice; this may involve coordination with the nurse for specific records; all patient information to be discarded should be shredded

  • Scan appropriate records into Epic and/or ChartMaxx and ensure records are saved in the appropriate location/folder/tabs

  • Verify and update demographic and insurance information for all patients returning for follow-up visits and for all patients at the beginning of each new year

  • Maintain adequate water and coffee supplies for the office via the W.B. Mason account

  • Maintain copy machines by replacing toner/cartridges and/or call for service when needed

  • Adheres to PATIENTS First philosophy customer service standards. Represents SUNY Upstate in a positive manner focusing on our core values which drive innovation & discovery, respect people, serve our community and value integrity

  • Contributes to the overall organizations process improvement activities. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in identifying and analyzing problems and recommending solutions

  • All other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

High school or equivalent and two years of secretarial/administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with Oncology specialty and ambulatory care services and experience with Medical Data Base systems (Epic) for patient registration and scheduling preferred.

Work Days:

Monday through Friday daytime hours - This position is located in Verona NY
