SUNY Upstate Medical University Medical Secretary in Syracuse, New York
Job Summary:
The responsibility of the Medical Administrative Professional is to provide outstanding quality customer service to patients, families, referring providers, departmental physicians and staff and other customers of the office. Perform a variety of secretarial and administrative duties.
Schedule patient appointments in Epic and Aria as appropriate for each physician; contact patients to change appointments, as needed
Request and obtain needed medical records including notes, exams and tests for all new patients referred from another physician practice; this may involve coordination with the nurse for specific records; all patient information to be discarded should be shredded
Scan appropriate records into Epic and/or ChartMaxx and ensure records are saved in the appropriate location/folder/tabs
Verify and update demographic and insurance information for all patients returning for follow-up visits and for all patients at the beginning of each new year
Maintain adequate water and coffee supplies for the office via the W.B. Mason account
Maintain copy machines by replacing toner/cartridges and/or call for service when needed

Contributes to the overall organizations process improvement activities. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in identifying and analyzing problems and recommending solutions
All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High school or equivalent and two years of secretarial/administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience with Oncology specialty and ambulatory care services and experience with Medical Data Base systems (Epic) for patient registration and scheduling preferred.
Work Days:
Monday through Friday daytime hours - This position is located in Verona NY
