SUNY Upstate Medical University Licensed Practical Nurse in Syracuse, New York
Job Summary:
Prepare ahead for all new patient, on-treatment and follow-up appointments to include review of chart for updates;
request any needed images and reports;
anticipate any test that each respective physician may require before seeing patient;
Ensure all pertinent test results and reports are obtained prior to scheduled appointment;
Complete physician orders such as, skin care or dressing changes, laryngoscopy, O2 administration, prescriptions;
coordinate all prescribed diagnostic testing and monitor results including reporting to physician;
this will include CT/Sim appointments, radiology appointments and other appointments as directed by the physician;
Assist with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments when appropriate;
Room and interview new patients including medical history and recent history related to diagnosis;
provide patient written and verbal teaching and information about diagnosis, radiation therapy, side effects and other pertinent information;
Provide daily direct care to patients;
medication reconciliation;
PRN nursing assessment for changes in status to include vital signs;
teaching on nutrition and maintaining weight;
promptly report changes that impact patient status or care to the physician;
Assess psychological and emotional needs and provide support through active listening and referral to appropriate agencies and/or departments as directed by physicians;
Provide education material and communicate physician advice and instructions to patient
Minimum Qualifications:
NYS licensed/registered LPN with a minimum of one year nursing experience. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in an outpatient setting (specialty area) strongly preferred.
Work Days:
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
