SUNY Upstate Medical University Clinical Assistant Professor - Director of the Rural Medical Education (RMED) Program in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary: This position will serve as the Director of the Rural Medical Education (RMED) Program, in the Department of Family Medicine.

As Director of the RMED Program, this position will manage and direct a robust curriculum, including rural clerkships, pre-clinical electives, summer experiences, and advanced electives. The Director will also manage and maintain affiliation agreements, faculty appointments, and other administrative tasks related to the functioning of the RMED Program. This position will also be expected to teach and assign grades to students, or to ensure that other faculty are assigned to teach those courses, that comprise the RMED program. The Director will also represent the program as a member of the Admissions Committee and of the Curriculum Committee for the Norton College of Medicine. While not a core requirement, it will be expected that the director maintain scholarship related to rural healthcare or the RMED program, including representing RMED at regional and national conferences, and in research and program evaluation projects, manuscripts, and presentations, as appropriate. The Director will also contribute to the organization and facilitation of events related to RMED, including but not limited to Graduation events, CME events for preceptors, site visits to off-campus learning sites, and other activities related to RMED. The Director will also be the key interface with internal managers, administrators, and faculty, including the RMED Medical Director (a separate position), Clerkship directors, Deans, Chairs, offices such as the Curriculum Office and Admissions Office, and all other Upstate offices and officials as needed for the operation, growth, and continuous improvement of the RMED program and its constituent parts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral Degree (PhD, MD) and three years of administrative experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with rural-focused education. Additionally, at least two years of experience in each of the following areas: Clerkship management; Higher Education Admissions; Curriculum Development and Management; Student Advising (in any capacity).

Work Days:

Generally M-F 8am-4:30pm some early morning or early evening meetings
