Crouse Hospital Authorization & Verification Coordinator - Addiction Treatment Services Float in Syracuse, New York

The Addiction Treatment Services team is hiring a Full Time Authorization and Verification Coordinator Float to work Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm or 8:00am-4:30pm.

Pay Range: $19.75-33.32/hour based on verified experience

Authorization and Verification Coordinator Position Responsibilities:

  • Proficiently responds to incoming department communications and messages via email, fax or phone.

  • Effectively obtains and verifies patient demographic and insurance information and authorization for services in a timely manner and documents in patient accounts computer system.

  • Routinely verifies insurance eligibility (when necessary) to ensure all pre-certification and authorization requirements are completed with the highest level of accuracy.

  • Properly verifies insurance and works to ensure all pre-certification, authorization and any other necessary requirements are completed in an organized and efficient fashion.

  • Professionally informs patients of potential cost for services and collects payment prior to services being completed.

  • Diligently collects and corrects all outstanding information required for billing purposes.

  • Routinely reviews bill hold to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to distribution within the established timeframe.

  • Proactively collects and corrects all outstanding information for billing procedures. Routinely reviews bill hold to assure that billing remains timely and accurate.

  • Completes Medicaid applications for patients that have no insurance

  • Completes Charity Care Applications on all patients at registration that do not have Medicaid products.

  • Works on worklists in all systems for Commonwealth Place.

  • Performs general secretarial, administrative, clerical, statistical and data entry functions specific to the assigned work area (fax/copy/scan/file).

  • Maintaining current patient roster and current patient folders, creating patient chart along with patient ID.

  • Creating Medlab accounts & printing Medlab results.

  • Ordering cabs for patient transportation upon discharge.

  • Entering NYS admission and discharge information (PAS 44 & 45).

  • Assisting patients with the completion of PA applications and coordinating with the Department of Social Services.

  • Coordinating requests for services, scheduling, and assisting with patient billing activities.

  • Establishes and maintains good communication with other hospital departments, physicians, employees, patients, visitors and the general public.

  • Will float between ATS and CWP to cover for Vacations and call in’s.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Authorization and Verification Coordinator Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in insurance verification/authorization, patient account maintenance or government insurance programs.

  • Certified Application Counselor certification required within 6 months of employment based upon testing availability.

  • Must have the ability to pass the Authorization & Verification competency exam with a score of 80% or higher. Testing will be administered by Human Resources.
