Your role at Clorox:

Your primary responsibility in this role will be to support all packaging development activities for fast‑moving consumer goods within the Homecare and Foodcare categories across the Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa regions, with potential extension to the Middle East and Asia as required.

You will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, conducting physical testing of packaging materials and finished products, and ensuring that all packaging complies with applicable local regulatory requirements.

In this role, you will:

Packaging Development and Artwork Verification

You will lead collaboration between packaging/product manufacturers and the marketing team to develop visually appealing, fit‑for‑purpose packaging for both new and existing products. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the mechanical design of packaging for new product developments.

  • Leading the development and approval of knifelines in partnership with suppliers and marketing teams.

  • Evaluating packaging design and artwork concepts through the creation of physical and digital mock‑ups using design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other specialised tools.

  • Supporting the Sales team by producing near‑real product samples that enhance customer understanding of proposed solutions.

  • Participating in the artwork approval process by reviewing and approving final knifelines, barcodes, artwork codes, and packaging sustainability claims.

  • Maintaining the packaging sustainability database and contributing to packaging regulatory compliance activities.

  • You will also confirm packaging material specifications with suppliers and support the development of internal Clorox specifications.

Testing of Materials and Assessment of New Technologies

  • You will conduct laboratory testing and prepare reports on the physical and mechanical properties of packaging materials and products, including plastic films, cardboard boxes, paper labels, aluminium foil, non‑stick baking papers, non‑woven products (such as wipes), and cleaning utensils including sponges and specialty cloths, to ensure quality and compliance with fit‑for‑use requirements.

What we look for:

Years and Type of Experience

  • Preferably a minimum of two years’ experience in a technical role involving laboratory work, packaging development, or industrial design.

  • Experience in testing physical parameters such as gauge, tensile strength, dart drop, tear resistance, TLT, and puncture resistance is desirable.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with external suppliers both within Australia and internationally.

  • Working knowledge of design software, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other specialised tools used in packaging development.

  • Willingness to learn new packaging‑related skills and adapt to evolving requirements.

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

  • Ability to analyse laboratory results and prepare reports using specialised equipment and software.

  • Strong problem‑solving aptitude, with the ability to address technical issues and manage unexpected challenges.

  • Optional: Experience in designing plastic or cardboard packaging for food‑contact products and cleaning utensils.

Education Level / Degree

  • A university degree in science or relevant qualifications in packaging development.
