Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect is looking for a highly skilled software developer to join our team in Sydney, Australia. The AWS Direct Connect team delivers solutions that make it easy for customers to establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to the AWS cloud. These connections help to reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections. AWS Direct Connect is currently available in more than 100 locations located in 28 countries.

This position will be responsible for designing systems, developing software, and supporting the next generation of the AWS Direct Connect service architecture.

Key job responsibilities

This position on the Direct Connect team will be designing and developing new solutions for our customers. You'll be coming in on the ground floor as we build these exciting new services for our enterprise customers to grow their hybrid cloud solutions tailored to their specific network needs and ensuring durability, resiliency, speed and high availability.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software

• Investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility

• Write high quality distributed system software and perform peer code-reviews

• Perform development and maintenance of key system features

• Drive best practices and engineering excellence

• Provide technical direction to the team and identify areas of focus

• Establish architectural principles, selecting design patterns and mentoring team members on their appropriate application

• Create and review software design documentation and mentor junior engineers

• Create and review documentation and process regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc

A day in the life

Our engineers develop high performance, highly available software which handles network monitoring for our customers. We design, build infrastructure, write code, test, deploy, monitor, and solve problems. Any given day you may be writing code to implement new features, designing our software architecture to create reliable systems, learning about new networking concepts so we can better serve our customers, write up a design proposal of a new feature for collaborative review. We have lots of opportunity to influence the product and architecture.

About the team

This opportunity exists within the AWS Direct Connect organization, where we build networks observability software to create reliable connectivity for our customers. This is a unique opportunity to build and innovate on one of the world’s largest networks that delivers hundreds of terabits of traffic each day for our customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 7+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
