The Senior Engineer, DevOps role within our Infrastructure Platform and Developer

Experience Platform plays a crucial role in supporting and driving our company's strategy by:

Enabling rapid innovation by optimising our deployment infrastructure and developer experience

Enhancing operational efficiency through the implementation of best practices in DevOps and cloud management

Ensuring scalability and reliability of our systems, supporting our commitment to customer satisfaction and business continuity

Driving digital transformation by championing the adoption of cloud-native technologies

Improving time-to-market by developing and maintaining efficient build pipelines and developer tools

Enhancing security and compliance in our cloud infrastructure

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership and Innovation

Design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure solutions for high-traffic, mission-critical systems

Utilise Service Mesh technology to create a platform that simplifies application building, deployment, discovery, and maintenance for product teams

Optimise cloud resources, engineering processes, and DevOps practices to enhance efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness

Champion and implement DevOps best practices, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and robust CI/CD pipelines

Collaborate with other teams to integrate cloud infrastructure with Identity, API Platform, and Data Platform initiatives

Operational Excellence

Implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring, logging, and observability solutions using tools like OpenTelemetry

Leverage data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement in our cloud infrastructure

Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of our cloud-based systems

Implement and maintain robust security practices in our cloud infrastructure, adhering to industry standards and best practices

Collaboration and Leadership

Work closely with product teams, architects, and other DevOps engineers to understand requirements and deliver optimal solutions

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to fostering a DevOps culture within the organisation

Participate in and contribute to cross-domain technology forums such as Architecture Guild and Tech Leadership Guild

Collaborate with Principal Engineers and Architects to drive Solution Design for large initiatives

Experience and qualifications:

Technical Skills

Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud platform, emphasising cloud-native services and best practices

Proficiency in DevOps-centric languages such as Python and TypeScript

Mastery of Infrastructure as Code tools, particularly AWS CDK and Terraform

Expert knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies, especially Docker and Kubernetes

Implement and optimize scalable Kubernetes infrastructure, enhance security, cluster performance and cost-efficiency.

Advanced experience with CI/CD tools and practices, including implementation of shift-left testing principles

Strong understanding of microservices, serverless computing, and event-driven architectures

Proficiency with monitoring tools, log management, and observability platforms (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Elastic Stack)

Experience with Service Mesh technologies, preferably Solo.io

Solid understanding of network security principles and implementation in cloud environments

Soft Skills

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning and staying updated with the latest cloud and DevOps trends

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Advanced AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional)

5+ years of experience in DevOps roles, with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure
