Product Director – Property and Construction
The Aon Australia Commercial Risk Product and Platforms team manages the strategic direction and tactical priorities of platform and product developments.
This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Aon Sydney office.

What the day will look like
Provide product and technical leadership across Property and/or Construction (short tail products)
Understand market dynamics (with respect to product) and the impact on Aon’s revenue, finding opportunities to improve GTMS
Assess and refine product offerings across different channels and their revenue implications
Ensure product is aligned with internal governance and regulatory standards,
Review and maintain the carrier panel with the GTMS, ensuring product offerings and pricing remain competitive
Triage insurer-imposed derogations and manage carriers around product integrity and compliance thereto
Advocate, educate and promote Aon products ensuring improved E&O and contract certainty for clients
Conduct SWOT analysis of Aon’s products versus major external competitors, defining strategic positioning
Ensure Aon products are fit for purpose, commercially viable and align with client or industry risk profile (where appropriate)
Lead the development (and refresh) of new and existing policy wordings and conduct cost-benefit analysis to support prioritisation
Project Manage endorsement updates to the Technical Library to incorporate feedback and input from product owners, technical and placement to ensure colleagues and clients receive up to date derogation commentary
Lead the development (and refresh) of new and existing policy wordings coordinating with key internal and external stakeholders to manage downstream changes and tightly managed delivery
Approve risk code requests to ensure justification and compliance and improve data and analytics to support new and refreshed product opportunities
Collaborate with platform, technical and placement teams to break down operational silos
Audit carriers for adherence to wording and reduction of derogations, improving contractual certainty for clients
Conduct quarterly meetings with carriers (in the GTMS) to assess performance, quote to bind ratios, market appetite, gathering insights for continuous improvement
Act as a referral or escalation point for broking colleagues and the technical team providing guidance on endorsements and impact to client industry / risk profile
Skills and experience that will lead to success
Middle to senior managers and / or brokers in property and / or construction
10–15 years’ experience across reinsurance, insurance, and/or broking
Minimum 7.5 years’ experience underwriting property and/or Construction), meeting strong product and technical capability requirements
Demonstrated experience in technical underwriting, portfolio management, or product leadership roles
Experience developing or drafting insurance products and policy wordings are highly regarded (but not essential)
A legal background or legal exposure is advantageous but not a prerequisite
Business orientated degree
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to articulate, advocate and influence decisions
Problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
Demonstrated project management expertise and track record

Ability to operate at a strategic and diligent level
Comfortable influencing senior partners across underwriting, product, and legal functions
Commercially minded with a strong understanding of product and portfolio performance drivers
