Your role and responsibilities

IBM Australia is seeking a Hybrid Cloud Architect, specialising in infrastructure and application migration/modernisation, responsible for designing, governing, and delivering architectures across hybrid environments (on-premises, private cloud, public cloud, SaaS). This role ensures seamless interoperability between enterprise applications, middleware platforms, COTS solutions, data platforms, and network domains while driving modernisation and digital transformation initiatives.

The role operates at both strategic and hands-on levels, defining enterprise cloud operating standards while guiding complex program execution across Australia’s most significant public and private sector organisations.

Required technical and professional expertise

As a hands-on Hybrid Cloud Architect, you will lead end-to-end architecture solutions for large digital and transformation initiatives while advising clients and project teams on modernising mission critical systems and platforms.

You will:

Enterprise Strategy & Architecture

· Define and maintain the enterprise hybrid cloud integration roadmap.

· Design target-state architectures across:

· Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, private cloud)

· Red Hat products and services

· Hybrid and On-premises (OpenShift, VMware)

· COTS/ERP/CRM platforms (e.g., SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow)

· Establish cloud native and hybrid cloud reference architectures and guardrails.

Hybrid & Multi-Cloud Architecture

· Lead cloud multi-cloud strategies across:

· On-prem to cloud

· Cloud-to-cloud

· SaaS-to-enterprise

· Address network segmentation, zero trust, and secure connectivity patterns.

· Design hybrid data synchronisation and consistency strategies.

· Accelerate onboarding of new applications and SaaS platforms.

Transformation & Modernisation Leadership

· Lead legacy system modernisation programs.

· Define phased migration approaches (re-host, re-platform, refactor, replace).

· Provide architecture leadership during transformation initiatives.

· Establish DevSecOps and CI/CD integration best practices.

· Define modernisation pathway for legacy applications.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership

· Engage with business, infrastructure, security, and data teams.

· Translate business capability needs into hybrid cloud architecture.

· Mentor senior engineers and integration leads.

· Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.

Governance & Standards

· Establish enterprise infrastructure and integration standards and policies.

· Establish architecture review boards for infrastructure solutions.

· Ensure compliance with regulatory and cybersecurity frameworks.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Required Skills & Experience

Professional Experience

· 10+ years in enterprise IT.

· 10+ years in Infrastructure and networking

· 7-10+ years in architecture roles.

· Proven experience leading large-scale hybrid cloud transformation initiatives.

· Demonstrated leadership in enterprise transformation or modernisation programs.

· Experience working in complex or large-scale environments.

Cloud Platforms

· AWS, Azure, GCP (multi-cloud experience preferred)

· Red Hat OpenShift/Kubernetes and container orchestration

Networking & Security

· Hybrid connectivity (VPN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect)

· Zero Trust architectures

· IAM federation and token-based authentication

Architecture & Engineering Practices

· DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines

· Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM)

· Observability and distributed tracing
