Vermont Department of Corrections Correctional Facility Shift Supervisor in Swanton, Vermont

Correctional and supervisory work involving direction of a major section of a correctional facility during a shift. Duties include instruction, deployment and supervision of security and operations staff in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures, and response to emergencies as required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed largely within a correctional facility and in daily contact with inmates. High stress situations are predictable, even frequent. The potential for physical assault or injury is present. Transportation and supervision of inmates outside of the correctional facility may be required. A valid motor vehicle operator\'s license is required. Overtime and emergency duty are predictable. Shift assignments may change in accordance with the needs of the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree or higher AND two (2) or more years of work experience INCLUDING one (1) year in a correctional institution involving the custody of inmates.\ OR\ Associates degree AND four (4) or more years of work experience INCLUDING three (3) years in a correctional institution involving the custody of inmates.

OR\ High school diploma or equivalent AND five (5) or more years of work experience, INCLUDING three (3) years in a correctional institution involving the custody of inmates.\ OR\ Four (4) or more years of military experience AND one (1) or more years in a correctional system involving the custody of inmates.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience in direct client contact in a residential facility or law enforcement..

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
