BorgWarner Inc. Sr. Mechanical Engineering Manager in Suzhou, China
Lead the mechanical engineering team in designing, developing, and delivering world-class mechanical components and systems for PDS products. This role requires a strategic leader with deep mechanical engineering expertise, proven team management skills, and a passion for advancing automotive electrification. Ensure technical excellence, innovation, and compliance with BorgWarner and automotive industry standards while driving cost optimization and agile project execution.
Mechanical Engineering Design & Development
Ø Oversee the design, development, and validation of mechanical components/subsystems for PDS Power Electronics products to meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and BorgWarner’s quality/reliability targets.Ø Drive technical decision-making for mechanical engineering projects, ensuring alignment with product roadmaps, cost targets, and time-to-market goals.Ø Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Program Management) to integrate mechanical designs with system-level requirements and resolve technical challenges.Project & Resource ManagementØ Plan and allocate engineering resources (budget, personnel, tools) to support multiple concurrent projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery of mechanical engineering deliverables.Ø Monitor project progress, identify risks/roadblocks, and implement mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.Ø Ensure compliance with EDF processes, standards (e.g., ISO, TS 16949), and safety requirements throughout the product lifecycle.Technical Innovation & Continuous ImprovementØ Champion technical innovation by evaluating emerging technologies, materials, and design methodologies to enhance product performance, reduce cost, and improve manufacturability.Ø Lead continuous improvement initiatives for engineering processes (e.g., design for manufacturing/assembly, simulation workflows, verification protocols) to increase efficiency and reduce rework.Ø Represent PDS mechanical engineering in internal technical forums and external customer/supplier engagements, advocating for technical solutions and building collaborative relationships.Cross - Functional CollaborationØ Collaborate with cross engineering competence teams (SYPL, System, Software and EE, Power Module, Validation etc) to deliver integrated products and solutions.Ø Work with product line, project management, sales, and plant to understand customer needs and market trends, and translate them into technical requirements and product features.Ø Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and industry partners.Ø Collaborate with customers to understand their project requirements, expectations, and constraints, and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.Ø Manage supplier relationships, including supplier selection, negotiation, and performance evaluation, to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality components and services.Team Leadership & DevelopmentØ Lead, mentor, and manage the team to foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability.Ø Set clear performance objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide career development guidance to support team members’ growth and retention.Ø Promote knowledge sharing, cross-training, and adoption of best practices within the team and across PDS engineering functions.
Education:
Ø Master’s degree in automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is a plus.
Experience:
Ø 15 years & above of automotive engineering experience, power electronics experiences are preferred.Ø Experience of leading fast-cycle production program with China local OEMs.Ø Experience of collaborating with global teams for program execution.Ø Fluent in Chinese and English
