License and Certification Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Required

  • Must be able to register for the State Department of Education (SDOE) Driver Trainer Certification training, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, and CDL Licenses Examiner's Certification within 90 days and obtain the licenses/certifications within a year of employment Required

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred or

  • In lieu of bachelor's degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with at least four years of progressively responsible experience in pupil transportation or related field Required

Experience Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience in transportation, logistics, or training management Required

  • Experience in a school environment Preferred

Skills Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of budgeting methods and theories

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals

  • Ability to create and deliver professional learning that supports the Transportation program and operations

  • Strong communication skills, both in oral and written format

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide management and guidance to a training and safety staff responsible for new bus manager training, professional development training, and operational training requirements, including accident investigation and analysis to identify personnel or training issues that impact safety.

  • Provide guidance for staff and part-time field trainers at varying training facilities/training sites.

  • Ensure responsibility for the evaluation of employees, payroll, and accounting duties.

  • Ensure the safety and training programs, staff development programs, and all areas associated with the department meet Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) requirements, SDOE requirements, and CDL requirements.

  • Direct new bus manager training programs for both regular education and special needs bus managers and oversee the training program for bus monitors.

  • Provide direction for the development and implementation of staff development programs for the existing bus managers, both regular education and special needs bus managers, as well as monitors and other transportation staff.

  • Ensure records are maintained on required staff development hours for all bus managers and bus monitors.

  • Provide direction for the review and investigation of post accidents and incidents involving bus managers, which includes data collection, reporting, and follow-up training.

  • Manage the development and publication of the Transportation Handbook and portions of the Transportation Logbook, new bus manager curriculum, and workbooks for both regular education and special needs.

  • Manage the development of the school bus safety curriculums K-8th grades, taught through the health programs throughout the district.

  • Ensure compliance with SDOE "Annual Reports" for bus managers, monitors, and personnel attendance at required annual safety meetings, fall and spring bus evacuations, bus manager physicals, current driver's licenses, and monthly bus safety practices.

  • Communicate with schools, bus managers, parents, and the public regarding services provided by the department through the development of procedures, guidelines, brochures, and informational materials.

  • Provide direction for the return to work program, remedial training program, and CPR/First Aid for veteran bus managers and bus monitors.

  • Manage the program for all bus managers returning to work from a physical injury through the use of technical assistance from physical therapy and ergonomics professionals.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear, manipulate tools and small items with hands, and lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. The employee may be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions while working on equipment under varying conditions including overhead work and work in confined spaces. Potential hazards of this position include working with electricity, working with heat and noise producing machinery and equipment, working on elevated equipment using ladders or other lifting devices, and use of chemicals and solvents.
