Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
15 years of experience in security engineering, software engineering, or a related technical discipline, with a focus on large-scale systems.
Experience designing, building, and securing large-scale cloud-based infrastructure and services.
Experience applying foundational security principles (e.g., threat modeling, secure-by-design, data protection) to the architecture and development of large-scale AI/ML systems and infrastructure.
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a field related to systems or security engineering.
Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, particularly its AI and security offerings.
Experience working cross-functionally to drive consensus among executives, fellows, and engineering leaders on complex technical decisions.
Experience applying AI/ML to solve complex security problems (e.g., threat intelligence, anomaly detection, automated security analysis).
Ability to assimilate new architectures, designs, development languages, and frameworks and provide expert technical guidance.
Recognized contributions to the security or AI communities (e.g., publications, patents, open-source projects, or presentations at major industry conferences).
About the job
As the Principal Engineer for AI Products and Infrastructure Security, you will be the most senior technical leader within the Cloud CISO Security Engineering organization dedicated to the security of Google's AI products. You will set and execute a cross-company strategy to utilize AI for accelerating security goals. You will be responsible for influencing the entire Google Cloud engineering organization to drive technical security outcomes. You will utilize expertise in AI systems and security engineering, the ability to influence without authority across all levels of Google, and the technical gravity to partner with our executive technical leaders.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $307,000-$427,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
Act as the foremost technical authority on the security of AI products, providing architectural guidance and influencing the technical strategy for every Google Cloud product and service that adopts or implements AI.
Develop, implement, and drive the widespread adoption of secure AI standards, tools, and frameworks across all Google Cloud engineering teams.
Lead proactive security assessments and architectural reviews for major AI products, resolving complex AI-related product security escalations and platform-level architectural tradeoffs.
Architect and lead initiatives to address and mitigate novel AI security challenges, including identity confusion in agentic workflows, over-permissioning, and prompt injection.
Partner with and influence the full range of executive technical leaders (e.g., vice presidents, fellows, and distinguished/principal engineers) across Google Cloud, Core, and Technical Infrastructure to drive consensus and accountability for security outcomes.
