Actalent Quality Engineer in Sturgis, Michigan

Job Title: Quality EngineerJob Description

The Quality Engineer leads all new product development quality efforts, ensuring that every new program launches with robust processes, clear documentation, and consistently high-quality performance. This role works closely with customers, process engineering, and production to define, implement, and maintain critical-to-quality parameters, while owning PPAP and related submission activities for new and existing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality activities for all new product development efforts, ensuring robust and repeatable processes from launch through full production.

  • Develop, prepare, and manage PPAP and related submission documentation, including creating packages from scratch in accordance with customer and industry requirements.

  • Collaborate daily with process engineers and production teams to define manufacturing processes and establish critical-to-quality points within those processes.

  • Document and define the optimal methods for running products, including detailed work instructions, process controls, and quality checkpoints.

  • Create, maintain, and update control plans that reflect current processes, customer requirements, and risk assessments.

  • Participate in and support the development of FMEAs to identify potential failure modes and implement preventive actions.

  • Communicate directly with customers on quality-related topics, including launch readiness, PPAP status, concerns, and ongoing performance.

  • Support and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities in response to internal or customer-identified issues.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, process capability, and customer satisfaction.

  • Support audit activities related to ISO 9001 and IATF requirements, including preparation of documentation and evidence when applicable.

  • Apply GD&T principles to interpret drawings and ensure that inspection and process controls align with design intent.

  • Support quality planning and execution for products such as waste tanks for the RV industry and future programs in the automotive and contract molding sectors.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proven experience communicating directly with customers on quality matters, including issues, requirements, and documentation.

  • Demonstrated experience creating PPAP documentation and submissions from scratch.

  • Practical experience developing and maintaining control plans.

  • Experience participating in or developing FMEAs for processes or products.

  • Working knowledge or exposure to GD&T sufficient to interpret drawings and support quality planning.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, or a related technical field.

  • Experience in the automotive industry or experience working with automotive customers and standards.

  • Plastics manufacturing experience, ideally in blow molding; injection molding or other plastics processing experience is also beneficial.

  • Experience with ISO 9001 and IATF audit activities.

  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting corrective action processes and structured problem-solving.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility with approximately 150 employees and a dedicated quality team of around 10 inspectors.

The environment supports collaboration across departments and involves regular interaction with manufacturing processes such as plastics and blow molding, as well as products serving the RV and automotive sectors.

The Quality Engineer works closely with process engineering, production, and inspection staff on the shop floor and in an office setting.

Typical hours are flexible

  • 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the option for earlier or later start times, depending on individual preference and business needs.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sturgis, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $40.87/hr.
