Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description
The Lab Technician performs physical, chemical, microbiological, and analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods to support overall quality control laboratory functions. This role works in a chemistry lab, microbiology lab, or a combination of both, while consistently applying Good Laboratory Practice, aseptic technique, and good documentation practices to ensure accurate, compliant, and reliable results.
Responsibilities
Follow all applicable company and governmental safety procedures in daily laboratory activities.
Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment according to established procedures.
Perform preventive maintenance activities on laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Maintain neat, accurate, and complete laboratory records and documentation for all testing performed.
Apply Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and accurate data recording to all quality control test activities.
Perform chemistry testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods using gas chromatography (GC), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), wet chemistry techniques, and other analytical methods as required.
Prepare reagents and standardize volumetric solutions to support routine testing.
Perform microbiology tasks including media preparation, growth promotion testing, and water sampling and testing.
Maintain stock cultures and perform Total Aerobic and Anaerobic Plate Counts, as well as Total Yeast and Mold Counts, according to established methods.
Support quality testing activities aligned with applicable standards such as USP 61 and USP 62.
Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of testing to support production and release schedules.
Perform other laboratory-related tasks as necessary to support quality control and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory-related field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Microbiology.
2–3 years of experience working in a quality control laboratory environment.
Hands-on experience with chemistry or microbiology testing in a laboratory setting.
Familiarity with USP methods and criteria, including USP 61 and USP 62.
Prior experience working under cGMP, GLP, and GDP requirements.
Ability to apply Good Laboratory Practice, aseptic technique, and good documentation practices consistently.
Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tests and priorities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for documenting results and collaborating with colleagues.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word for data entry, reporting, and documentation.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. as required for handling materials and equipment in the laboratory.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience performing quality testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods.
in both chemistry and microbiology labs, with flexibility to work across different lab areas as needed.
Experience preparing reagents, standardizing volumetric solutions, and conducting wet chemistry techniques.
Experience with analytical instruments such as GC and FTIR in a regulated environment.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a laboratory team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and compliance.
Flexibility to adjust work hours, including early starts, late finishes, and weekend overtime, to meet testing timelines.
Work Environment
This role is based primarily in a microbiology laboratory, with potential work in a chemistry lab or a combination of both depending on operational needs.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Streamwood, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $31.00/hr.
