Electrical Assistant Project Manager

Job Description

The Electrical Assistant Project Manager supports senior project leadership in planning, organizing, and executing electrical construction projects, with a strong focus on data center and commercial work. This role assists with day-to-day project management activities, helps manage budgets and schedules, and contributes to the successful delivery of projects on time and within budget while maintaining strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize electrical construction projects under the direction of a Project Manager, senior Project Manager, or Vice President.

  • Assist with the preparation, review, and tracking of change orders, submittals, and requests for information (RFIs).

  • Monitor project activities in coordination with onsite leadership and the Superintendent to help ensure the project is built on schedule and within budget.

  • Prepare monthly costing reports under the supervision of the Project Manager, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Manage financial aspects of contracts, including billing, rental equipment, and tracking income and expenses.

  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with clients throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve issues related to work procedures, complaints, and construction challenges.

  • Continually identify project issues and proactively help manage risks and opportunities to keep the project on track.

  • Prepare and manage project submittals, ensuring timely review and approval.

  • Perform drawing take-offs and assist with estimating to support project pricing and budgeting.

  • Coordinate procurement of materials to ensure timely delivery and availability for field operations.

  • Prepare project billings and support collection efforts to maintain healthy project cash flow.

  • Support project closeout activities, including documentation, punch lists, and final deliverables.

  • Assist in forecasting requirements, managing budgets, and tracking project expenses.

  • Create and maintain detailed project schedules, updating milestones and tracking progress.

  • Support and oversee, in coordination with field leadership, the electrical installation of equipment to align with project plans and specifications.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction or electrical project environments.

  • Electrical background with hands-on experience working with or for an electrical contractor.

  • Experience working with mission-critical or data center projects, or strong familiarity with similar high-reliability environments.

  • Proficiency in preparing and managing submittals, change orders, and RFIs.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management or construction management support roles.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and perform quantity take-offs.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.

  • Solid understanding of project budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.

  • Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, supervisors, contractors, and design professionals.

  • Ability to collaborate with onsite leadership and Superintendents to monitor progress and resolve issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • No formal degree required; equivalent experience in electrical construction is highly valued.

  • Mission-critical or data center project experience is a strong plus.

  • Experience in commercial electrical construction projects is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with construction management processes, documentation, and workflows.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships through professional and responsive communication.

  • Willingness to work on a contract-to-hire basis with the potential to transition to a long-term role.

  • Eligibility for paid time off and client-paid, billable holidays as part of the contract-to-hire arrangement.

Work Environment

This role supports electrical construction projects, with primary duties performed in an office environment and regular interaction with active construction job sites. The position involves frequent exposure to construction conditions, including fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise levels. The work may take place both indoors and outdoors and can include exposure to extreme weather and varying site conditions. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, with a focus on mission-critical and commercial data center work. Standard office technology and typical construction management tools will be used to manage schedules, documentation, and financials, while coordination with field teams occurs regularly to support onsite electrical installation activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sterling, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
