Sterling Area Health Center Medical Biller / Coder in Sterling, Michigan
Required: Experience in all aspects of medical billing. ICD-10 coding preferred. High school diploma & Billing / Coding Certificate.
Essential Functions: The position plays a vital role in assuring that patient billing systems operate smoothly, timely, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for accounts receivable management tasks with the goal of maximizing reimbursements.
- Processes, reviews, and transmits the billing of claims to insurance companies for all providers daily.
- Assures patient insurability and enters all changes in the practice management system.
- Review CPT codes, diagnosis codes, modifiers, provider, and location information on claims for accuracy.
- Obtains, processes, and tracks prior authorizations for patient treatments.
- Coordinates benefits with insurance companies to capture full payment amounts.
- Keeps track of reimbursements from insurance companies and consults with reimbursement specialists on outstanding claims.
- Follows up on rejection, errors, corrections, etc. from insurance companies.
- Monitors patient overpayments and complete necessary refunds.
- Monitors follow up with and collect past due balances.
- Assist with daily deposits from self-pay and third-party payers.
- Runs daily schedule and gathers all financial information for receptionist to collect.
- Answers billing inquiries and questions from patients and/or insurance companies.
Attend meetings regularly with RCM and new billing & insurance changes.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must be computer efficient and understand most commonly used insurance websites on how to verify eligibility, check claims process and enter claims as needed.
- Communicates in writing and orally, in person and through electronic means with proficiency.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of office administration, clerical procedures, and recordkeeping systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn new or updated software.
- Demonstrate HIPAA confidentiality and privacy at work and off duty.
- Demonstrate customer focused interpersonal skills to interact in an effective manner with patients, practitioners, and families with diverse options, values, and religious and cultural ideals.
