Process Engineer – Gear Manufacturing
Overview / Summary:
We are seeking a Process Engineer to support manufacturing process engineering activities with a focus on gear lab development. This role involves driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity while applying engineering principles to enhance manufacturing processes and products.
Key Responsibilities:
Support manufacturing process engineering activities and development
Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity
Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to improve processes and products
Develop action plans to investigate quality concerns and verify corrective actions
Lead and conduct process audits to ensure adherence to drivetrain guidelines
Perform ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions
Analyze vehicle inventory root causes and implement corrective measures
Create process and instruction sheets supporting quality methods
Develop and improve gear machining processes and tools
Support hypoid blade development and tool life improvements
Contribute to milling and hobbing machining development
Validate heat treat distortion and fire checks
Work on shot peening (compressive residual stress), annealing, and tempering processes
Support hypoid lapping and grinding development
Set up and validate CMM inspection processes
Perform data collection and presentation during hypoid bevel development
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
5+ years of related experience
Experience in hypoid gear development or data analytics
Strong leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
Experience with manufacturing processes - expectation is to maintain a list of issues and work with a cross functional team to resolve them.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in bevel gear grinding, lapping, hobbing, and milling
Understanding of bevel processes including blanking, grinding, lapping, honing, and shot peening
Experience with Gleason and Klingenberg systems
Experience with P40 and Gleason Nano CMM
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
Experience with 8D, 5Why, DMAIC, and DMADV methodologies
Familiarity with FMEA, PPAP, and DOE
Experience with data analysis and data collection
Proficiency in Excel and data analytics tools
