Actalent Manufacturing Process Engineer in Sterling Heights, Michigan

Job Title: Manufacturing Process EngineerJob Description

Support the Manufacturing Process Engineering activities for Axle Carrier Machining Manufacturing by driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity. Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and enhance manufacturing processes and products. Develop action plans to investigate quality concerns and verify corrective actions on both internal and supplier processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct process audits to ensure process discipline aligns with Powertrain Operations guidelines.

  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions to reduce carrier inventory root causes and carrier rejects.

  • Create process and instruction sheets to support quality methods and processes.

  • Deliver capable processes and tools for Carrier Machining operations.

  • Lead in resolving machining-related concerns and implement variability reduction and lean manufacturing initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with Plant, Corporate, Governmental, and Environmental standards.

  • Support ISO compliance, including internal auditing and adherence to standards.

  • Identify throughput constraints and drive root cause improvements.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in Automotive Manufacturing, particularly in facilities that manufacture metal parts through machining.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Proficiency in 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with Lean Tools such as 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.

  • Familiarity with DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) Project Methodologies.

  • Knowledge of TQM, PPAP, and DOEs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience in Visual Factory Management.

  • Knowledge and experience in ergonomic analysis.

Work Environment

The position is part of the Launch team, consisting of 7-8 other engineers. The work schedule is from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with overtime expectations on the latter part of the shift. The dress code is business casual, with safety glasses and a vest required, provided by the plant if necessary.

This is a Contract position based out of Sterling Heights, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $42.30 - $46.53/hr.
