Vegetation Management Field Technician

Public Works R&B

POSITION OVERVIEW

Full-time, Seasonal position, May 2026 through October 2026. Applicant will perform weed management activities on weed infested areas and develop and implement an integrated noxious weed management program on County, State, and Federal Rights-of-way, State Parks, National Forest, and Open Lands as directed by Weed Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

•High School Diploma or GED is required, BS preferred

•Knowledge of weeds, herbicides and integrated weed management, or a combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities, required for the job

•Employee must be able to hike in rough terrain and be exposed to all types of weather conditions and pesticides.

•Must be able to lift or move heavy objects.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

•Commercial Pesticide Applicators/Qualified Supervisors License preferred or ability to obtain in within ONE month of hire

•Valid Colorado Driver’s License in order to operate a County vehicle is required

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

•Knowledge of weeds and herbicides preferred

•Mechanical ability preferred

•Knowledge of Routt County preferred

•Must be able to fill out forms and reports clearly and completely

•Must have ability to tactfully work with landowners

•Must adhere to strict safety regulations

•Familiar with word processing and computer skills in Microsoft Office Products including Word and Outlook, as well as navigating a Windows based computer system and the Internet.

•Ability to fill out forms accurately, including the ability to use electronic data entry devices and GPS devices for acquiring points and tracks and record the data on maps.

•Must have excellent inter personnel and communication skills in order to maintain an open and well-structured department. Communication in written form and verbally with the staff of the Weed Department, Public Works Department, employees of the County, vendors and the public.
