WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:

The Director, HR Compliance & Policy is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of the American Red Cross’s HR compliance and policy programs. This role ensures organizational compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations across the United States while aligning compliance strategies with broader business and workforce objectives.

The Director proactively monitors the evolving regulatory landscape, assesses organizational risk, and develops mitigation strategies that protect the Red Cross and support a positive, trustworthy employer reputation. This role oversees the Leaves of Absence (LOA) and Accommodations function, including management of third-party vendors, and establishes internal controls to enhance performance, consistency, and compliance.

The Director partners closely with senior HR leadership, business leaders, the Office of General Counsel, and external agencies to support enterprise-wide HR initiatives. This position manages a remotely located team of LOA and Compliance professionals and plays a critical role in guiding the organization through complex change.

The work location for this position is 100% virtual/work from home. The position can be worked from anywhere in the United States.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

• Direct the execution of HR compliance initiatives and projects, including scope definition, deliverable assignment, scheduling, issue resolution, and resource coordination.

• Direct, develop and deliver change management strategies, communication plans, and end-user training related to HR compliance programs and initiatives.

• Design, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures to support ethical, legal, and compliant business practices; regularly update and maintain the Red Cross Employee Handbook.

• Provide oversight of the Leaves of Absence and Accommodations team to ensure compliant administration, strong customer service, and alignment with workforce and business objectives.

• Direct and govern the development and administration of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action (AA) programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements.

• Represent the organization with regulatory, enforcement, and community agencies as needed; oversee and direct AA/EEO education and training initiatives.

• Design and implement reporting and analytics methodologies to meet regulatory, compliance, and business needs; analyze complex data to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.

• Administer and continuously improve HR compliance monitoring and tracking systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.

• Preside over all internal and external HR audits, including audit planning, stakeholder coordination, data review, findings analysis, and development of corrective action plans.

• Serve as a people manager, interpreting and administering policies, processes, and procedures that impact teams and subordinate functions.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):

• Education: Bachelor's degree required*

• Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

• Management Experience: 5 years of people management experience.

Skills & Abilities:

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence across all organizational levels,

• Strong verbal and written communication skills,

• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire teams toward a shared vision,

• Experience navigating leave administration and compliance issues within complex, multi-state organizations.

• Vendor management experience.

Travel: May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods of time. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.

The annual salary range for this position is $130K - $150K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.

This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
