The Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics advances the health of infants, children, and adolescents worldwide through innovative medical care, research, training and advocacy. Ranked among the top in the nation, the Department of Pediatrics attracts medical students, interns, residents, fellows, and postdoctoral scholars from around the world. The department's programs offer a range of training opportunities in general pediatrics, critical care, and pediatric subspecialties-all within a variety of ambulatory, inpatient, and community settings. Moreover, while teaching the skills required for tomorrow's physician leaders, our programs challenge trainees to explore and develop their interests through basic science, clinical and community-based research.
The Associate Director of Postdocs & Students will administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures on issues regarding all aspects of students, unpaid student interns, and postdoctoral scholars. Identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible and complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using expert technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.
The successful applicant for this position will be passionate about higher education and student services, have program and project management experiences, and a desire to collaborate with a dynamic group of faculty, staff, and trainees on a mission to improve child health research.
This position is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of two days of on-site work per week on the Stanford Medicine campus in Palo Alto, CA, with the expectation of additional days each week depending on the needs of the postdoc and student community. The finalist for this position must be expected to be flexible to work on site more days each week as needed for the role.
Duties include:
Serve as the Department expert on students, unpaid student interns, and postdoctoral scholars. Manage all aspects of students, unpaid student interns, and postdoctoral scholars for the Department, analyze effectiveness, and make final decisions on program eligibility.
Engage in critical analysis and evaluation of student and program concerns to resolve substantial issues which may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge.
Develop and implement programming(virtual, in-person), make strategic recommendations for future programs.
Interpret and implement university policy related to academic policies; oversee the implementation of policies and practices forstudents, unpaid student interns, and postdoctoral scholars.
Analyze and develop report requirements, portals, and student facing communications.
Evaluate and determine recommendations on technology resources, negotiate with resources options and vendors.
Manage outreach programs, relationships with external community and university liaisons.
Provide direct advice to students, unpaid student interns, and postdoctoral scholars on a broad range of complex issues including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
Apprise students of research, fellowship,make recommendations and may award grants.
May contribute to preparing and submitting training grants.
May assist in development efforts to support donor relations, stewardship annual reporting.
Manage financial processes and development of budgets.
Oversee key processes, including contribution and direction on policy and program content.
Provide consulting advice to internal and external organizations; act as subject matter expert in a specialized field.
May lead teams and projects that impact a significant unit of the university.
May direct the work of other staff; contribute to development of staff training programs.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The salary range for this position working in the California Bay area is between $108,450 to $129,629 based on commensurate experience and background.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in education or related field.
Prior experience working with postdoctoral scholars or graduate students.
Prior experience working with international student populations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
· Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills to review and analyze complex information.
· Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
· Advanced customer service skills.
· Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
· Understanding of financial transactions.
· Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
· Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
· Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
