ManTech Material Science Engineer in Stafford, Virginia
MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented MATERIAL SCIENCE ENGINEER to support our additive manufacturing team in STAFFORD, VA.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serving as the subject matter expert in material science engineering as it applies to industrial Additive Manufacturing systems
Leading additive manufacturing process optimization efforts, including parameter development, validation, repeatability analysis, and performance benchmarking
Developing and applying process modeling and simulation tools to predict material behavior, thermal response, structural integrity, and production outcomes
Conducting advanced design characterization and material performance analysis specific to Additive Manufacturing applications
Partnering with engineering teams to leverage CAD-driven workflows that enhance design-for-additive-manufacturing (DfAM) practices and manufacturability
Collaborating with the Program Manager, Additive Manufacturing to align technical execution with program cost, schedule, and performance objectives
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
4 to 7 years of experience in additive manufacturing, with demonstrated focus in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries
Deep expertise in material science engineering as applied to industrial Additive Manufacturing environments with experience with composites, polymers and foaming in 3D applications.
Demonstrated expertise in Additive Manufacturing process optimization, including parameter refinement and performance validation
Strong experience in process modeling and simulation for Additive Manufacturing systems
Proven experience in analysis and design characterization for Additive Manufacturing applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Hands-on experience with large-format metal Additive Manufacturing systems
Experience developing and qualifying materials for mission-critical defense applications
Experience supporting DoD customers within research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) environments
Clearance Requirements:
- Candidate must have an active/current Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able and willing to perform occasional manual labor and warehouse duties, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
