Division of Personnel Government of the VI Senior Inspector, Weights and Measures (DLCA-STT) in St Thomas, Virgin Islands
Under the general supervision of the Chief Inspector, Weights and Measures or a higher-level officer, this position is responsible for performing the highly technical aspects of weights and measures administration and enforcement; employs established procedures in conducting special tests, investigations, and preparing reports. Supervision is received in the form of conferences, examination and discussion of reports submitted, and for conformity with all laws, regulations and handbooks pertaining to weighing and measuring practices and devices. Duties and Responsibilities: DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE) Conducts surveys and tests on pre-packaged products to determine net contents and compliance with laws. Conducts tests on various types of weighing and measuring devices to determine compliance with laws, rules, and regulations. Conducts surveys and investigations to determine compliance with Weights and Measures laws. Prepares clear and concise monthly and other reports of all action and activities. Participates in compilation and analysis of data and activities of the unit. Enters work data and monitors the information on the computer system. Plans, coordinates, and participates in community-wide activities to inform the public of the activities of the weights and measures program. Gathers evidence for possible court action and appears as witness when necessary. Acts in the absence of the Chief Inspector. Appears before the news media and civic organizations to explain the division program and function. Provides assistance and performs as the lead in training the entry level inspectors. Undergoes regular classroom and in-service training on the laws, regulations, procedures and policies regarding weights and measures administration and enforcement. Performs all types of inspections, surveys and investigations regarding weights and measures enforcement and other matters. Makes decisions based on the results of inspections, tests, and investigations as to compliance with or violations of the Weights and Measures law. Performs other related work as required.
