Oracle Senior Director, Datacenter Design in St Thomas, Virgin Islands

Job Description

As Senior Director of Datacenter Design, you will lead a global team responsible for all data hall design for OCI. This role is responsible for leading the team consisting of design engineers, technical program managers, and software developers to ensure on-time delivery of design projects, working with cross-functional teams to establish standards that enable better power/space utilization while maintaining flexibility to adapt data centers to different use cases. You will work closely with the Infrastructure Delivery, Supply Chain, Physical Networking, Datacenter Operations, and software automation teams to further optimize the data center design and fit-out process. The position requires a high degree of energy, passion, outgoing personality, technical competence and integrity.

  1. Design Leadership
  • Own the communications strategy for datacenter design decisions which includes executive level and detailed project briefs and status updates.

  • Own and drive network design, structured cabling, fiber, passive devices, connectors

  • Monitor the project design delivery process and oversee the Datacenter Design team.

  • Develop design framework including standardized tools, techniques, and processes to ensure clarity and consistency across all projects.

  • Oversee the creation and refinement of design documentation

  • Ensure designs align with standards and meet project goals for functionality and performance.

  • Drive innovation in design to enhance sustainability and speed-to-market.

  1. Project Oversight
  • Measure, analyze, track and report business, process, and quality metrics to achieve targets while analyzing trends and identifying areas for improvement.

  • Lead a team in executing test fits, development planning, and design milestones, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.

  • Direct the implementation of effective design change management processes, ensuring alignment with reference designs and Oracle standards.

  • Conduct design reviews and lead value engineering exercises to optimize cost and performance.

  • Monitor project milestones to ensure timely delivery of design deliverables.

  1. Stakeholder Engagement
  • Ensure internal and external customer satisfaction and exceed customer’s expectations on each project.

  • Present design concepts and progress updates to stakeholders, incorporating feedback into project execution.

  1. Innovation and Quality
  • Use technical judgment to drive new project evaluations, technology reviews, challenge proposals and build consensus.

  • Stay updated on advancements in data center design and incorporate emerging technologies into projects.

  • Conduct and maintain ongoing and post-project reviews to document lessons learned and share insights across the program.

  • Collaborate with teams to ensure facilities meet design intent and quality expectations.

  1. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Enable a culture of knowledge across functions: Provide regular updates on selected relevant knowledge, market intelligence, relevant news, academia, and other relevant entities.

  • Facilitate the spread of knowledge across functions: Define communication formats and channels that allow for easy consumption anywhere, anytime.

  • Foster and maintain strong/positive relationships across other groups and teams within Oracle. Stay abreast of the latest innovations in IaaS cloud computing.

  • Lead by example, setting a clear culture of teamwork, high expectations, success, and customer first focus.

  • Manage and coach a team of leaders, helping them grow their skills and maximize their impact. Coach and lead the team to create user experiences that deliver remarkable products.

Responsibilities

  • 10+ years of experience with a strong focus on data center design management.

  • Experience in data center design and construction process, including greenfields and retrofits.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead distributed teams.

  • Knowledge in design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit/BIM

  • Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including cooling, power distribution, and fire protection systems.

  • Experience working in Infrastructure/Cloud/Hardware with a background in Strategy, Capacity Planning, Supply Chain Optimization, driving technology strategy and/or technology consulting.

  • Experience distilling diverse data points into actionable insights and recommendations, to quickly separate signal from noise for executive communication and decision making.

  • Business acumen and intuition, with experience in forming and refining hypotheses into an actionable analysis and recommendation.

  • Analytical and quantitative experience, with additional experience in constructively engaging with analysts, Data Science and Engineering, and UXR partners to frame and interpret sophisticated analyses.

  • Problem solving and strategy experience, including expansive opportunity identification, data-driven segmentation, and framing of complex/ambiguous problems.

  • Experience collaborating and working with internal and external organizations and individuals.

  • Experience in building decision scenarios & options and communicating at all levels of the org.

  • Experience delivering products to highly regulatory constrained public sector customers is highly desirable.

  • Product vision & strategy: Will identify and drive the right opportunities for us to innovate and differentiate. Able to make difficult trade-off decisions.

  • People management experience: Proven ability to hire and grow rock stars. Ensure excellent execution by the team.

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork skills. Able to handle challenging meetings with internal and external executives.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $161,700 to $338,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

  8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
