This position exists in PERA’s member call center to deliver PERA benefit information and respond to stakeholder inquiries of a routine nature, either by phone, in person or in writing, explaining the PERA benefits and options that will meet their financial goals and needs, and helping them understand the value of retirement planning specific to PERA benefits.

In addition, the incumbent in this position may perform routine and some manual calculations; some calculations will be audited.

Once new hire training is complete, this position is telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) eligible and offers a hybrid work schedule, based on agency and department needs and other dependencies. Scheduled in-office work days will be at PERA’s office in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Candidates residing in Minnesota within 50 miles of our St Paul office may be eligible to telework up to 50%.

  • Candidates residing in Minnesota and more than 50 miles from our office may be eligible to telework more than 50%.

  • Candidates residing in a bordering state within 50 miles of our office may be eligible to telework up to 50%.

  • Candidates who do not reside in Minnesota or within 50 miles of the office in a state bordering Minnesota are not eligible to be hired, unless planning to relocate within 50 miles of the office or report to the office full time

Minimum Qualifications

One and one half (1.5) years of experience in retirement planning, program administration, or financial services

*A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance may substitute for one (1) year of experience

Years of experience must clearly demonstrate the following:

  • Interpersonal and communication skills demonstrating the ability to provide customer service, clearly explain comprehensive benefit information, and offer counseling to diverse stakeholders.

  • Analyticalandproblem-solvingskillssufficient to evaluate facts, draw conclusions, and offer recommendations

  • Abilitytoperform and audit routine mathematical calculations

  • ExperienceusingMicrosoft Office software

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently and in a team environment

  • Experience providing explanation of benefits or administering employee benefits

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of public pension plans

  • Experience working in a high volume call center with the primary focus of delivering customer service and administering retirement benefits, including benefit plan policy interpretations and explanations

  • General knowledge of Minnesota Statutes Chapters 353 and 356, relating to benefits and membership eligibility of the Association

  • Knowledge of the 45 Police and Fire Relief Association, and Statewide Volunteer Firefighter (SVF) pension plans

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
