This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

This position exists to develop a strategic and proactive public engagement direction for MnDOT, helping ensure consistent implementation across MnDOT Districts, specialty offices and functional areas such as multimodal programs and state highway planning and project development. This position develops this outreach strategy while also supervising MnDOT engagement coordinators, market researchers and the ombudsperson, reporting to Office of Communications and Public Engagement leadership.

MnDOT does not sponsor applicants for visas or Optional Practical Exam for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of professional supervisory (supervising professional employees) experience in the areas noted below; OR, Four years (4) of advanced professional experience in the areas noted below:

NOTE: A Bachelor's or Master's degree Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Affairs or similar will substitute for 6 months of experience.

  • Experience in public engagement or communications sufficient to oversee, create agency wide standards for our public engagement program;

  • Experience in creating and executing strategic communication plans and/or public relations plans.

  • Experience with market research, such as conducting programmatic evaluation and/or analyzing and applying survey data;

  • Experience utilizing a range of communication channels such as written communication, websites, social media, multimedia, outreach, and/or in-person events;

  • Experience as a leader on projects where you have motivated other team members, persuaded them to complete project assignments and monitored project work tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with communications in a government setting.
