At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and working to improve the well-being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), in collaboration with many partners, helps Minnesota’s most vulnerable residents meet their basic needs so they can live in dignity and achieve their highest potential.

The Executive Pathways Program is a paid summer internship (June – August) for college students to explore a rewarding career in public service.

What you can expect during your internship:

  • Hands-on experience impacting individuals and processes within a large human service agency

  • Opportunity to meet (virtually and in-person) to network with other state employees

  • Attend virtual workshops focused on your Professional development

The HR Systems & Project Management Intern will support HRIS and HR Project Management by contributing to two key projects. The first project focuses on improving how HR tracks and responds to incoming requests. Currently, HR does not have a centralized system to log requests, track response times, or identify who completed each request. The intern will help support the development of an online digital ticketing system in partnership with the HRIS team to improve organization, accountability, and efficiency. The second project supports HR’s project prioritization efforts. HR manages a high volume of projects and has created a rubric to score projects based on alignment with DHS and HR North Stars; however, this process is currently manual. The HR Systems & Project Management Intern will assist in creating a digital project scoring calculator with heat map functionality to streamline the process, reduce manual effort, and support data-informed decision-making in partnership with HR Project Management.

Some responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Support HRIS and HR Project Management on key projects

  • Assist with building a digital ticketing system to track HR requests
