The Executive Pathways Program is a paid summer internship (June – August) for college students to explore a rewarding career in public service.

The Classification and Recruitment Intern will work collaboratively as part of the Strategic Talent Acquisition Team within the Office of Human Resources. The intern will conduct job evaluations, assist with recruitment activities such as posting jobs and screening applicant resumes, and work on special projects. This internship requires a relationship-driven approach by actively partnering with requesting managers/supervisors, human resources team members, and other stakeholders to support DHS’ mission – helping people meet their basic needs so they can live in dignity and achieve their highest potential.
Some responsibilities include but not limited to:
Performing job evaluations and communicating the results to the hiring managers.
Reviewing resumes for applicants’ relevant knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience as they related to positions qualifications.
Drafting job postings and upload to the State Careers website and other places to attract qualified applicants.
Attending classification, talent acquisition and other staff meetings to engage with the teams and learn more about their processes.
Working closely with classification and talent acquisition to understand and support the Human Resources process.
Performing special projects as assigned, such as assisting with shared drive organization and filing.
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:
You must be a student at an accredited educational institution; or recently graduated December 2025 or May 2026
AND
Excellent human relation and communication skills sufficient to represent the position and Division in a professional, efficient, and clear manner
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred majors include: Human Resources, Business, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
Passion and interest in human resources, particularly in the areas of classification and recruitment.
Proven track record of being reliable, prepared, responsive and eager to learn.
Strong prioritization and multitasking skills.
Strong attention to detail and follow through.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Analytical thinking and writing skills.
Additional Requirements
Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, or senior (Graduate students allowed)
Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment
Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship
Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
