This position plays a vital role in supporting the State of Minnesota by ensuring clean, safe, and environmentally sound buildings, grounds, and operations. It exists to supervise janitorial services and deliver consistent, high-quality results that support the health, safety, and productivity of state employees and the public. This position also carries the responsibility of responding to buildings under the custodial control of the Facilities Management Division during emergencies that require immediate janitorial services to minimize damage and reduce the risk of tenant displacement. In addition, this role provides agencies with workplace safety coordination and consulting services, including safety management system development, hazard identification and evaluation, accident investigation, safety and health loss report evaluation, safety committee development, and safety training in alignment with the department’s Workplace Expectations. Job duties include:
Plan, assign, review, and evaluate work performed by cleaning personnel, including hiring recommendations and performance evaluations.
Train employees in proper cleaning methods, safety procedures, work rules, and ensure adherence to all safety policies and OSHA requirements.
Administer quality control programs, conduct regular inspections, and report results to the Building Services Manager.
Manage supplies, equipment, time and attendance records, and evaluate cleaning effectiveness relative to quality and cost.
Assist in determining cleaning frequencies, workloads, and quality levels, and collaborate with Building Services and Plant Management teams.
Respond to emergency cleaning needs, perform maintenance or cleaning tasks as needed, and carry out additional responsibilities that support the work unit and division.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience as a team lead or supervisor, including providing basic work direction, supporting staff, and helping maintain workflow and performance standards.
Janitorial experience with knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment sufficient to direct and train employees and evaluate cleaning performance.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including heavy use of arms and upper body, frequent bending, stooping, and other movements associated with janitorial work.
Valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting or assisting with discipline investigations, reviewing employee performance, or supporting employee development.
Experience working directly with clients, tenants, or visitors in a customer-service or facilities-focused environment.
Writing skills sufficient to organize and prepare clear, accurate investigation reports.
Previous experience as a Building Services Supervisor with the State of Minnesota.
Ability to speak and understand Spanish or Somali.
Physical Requirements
