NOTE: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes Engineer Senior and/or Engineer 2 Graduate. The final class is dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.

This position assists the State Aid Traffic Safety Engineer in administering the Highway Safety Improvement Program and other traffic safety initiatives including but not limited to the development of the Minnesota County Roadway Safety Plans (CRSP) and assisting the Federal Aid section in agreements and plans processing as needed. This position also exists to serve as a technical resource as it relates to managing and administering the Minnesota Crash Mapping Analysis Tool (MnCMAT2).

This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer Senior:

Licensure as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). If obtaining licensure through Comity (reciprocity), a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.

AND experience in:

  • Experience working with Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

  • Experience conducting training and/or giving presentations.

  • Experience analyzing data.

  • Experience with construction plan preparation and interpretation.

  • Valid Driver’s license.

Minimum Qualifications :

Engineer Grad 2 :

All applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited College or University and two years professional level civil engineering experience in the areas noted below; (a Master's degree may be substituted for one year of the professional experience) plus applicants must have full completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

AND experience in:

  • Experience working with Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

  • Experience conducting training and/or giving presentations.

  • Experience analyzing data.

  • Experience with construction plan preparation and interpretation.

  • Valid Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Both Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate

• A knowledge and understanding of State Aid Rules and policies, MnDOT Design Standards and letting practices, and appropriate federal regulations and AASHTO guidelines.

• A knowledge of Project Development Report requirements

• Application of various statistical evaluation techniques sufficient to research and evaluate new technologies, materials, and procedures.

• Experience with either statistical analysis software or GIS software.

• Familiarity with word processing, email, spreadsheet, and project tracking software.

• Knowledge of the Highway Planning process
