Acting under administrative direction of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director position is recognized as the departmental lead in licensing and professional development. This position coordinates initial and continuing licensure functions serving over 18,000 regulated dental professionals and supervises staff performing evaluation, administration and implementation of licensing, professional development and administrative processes for the agency. The responsibilities include analyzing, developing and operationalizing procedural changes in response to legislation and rule changes that have internal department and state-wide implications. This incumbent is a key member of the Board's leadership team and is charged with ensuring the protection of the public.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement. With a telework agreement, onsite attendance will be required for team members or as requested by management to meet business needs. Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in the following: working with administrative processes, legal documentation and procedures, or regulatory policies and procedures. A bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience as described. An associate's degree may substitute for six months of experience as described.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience may include any of the following:

  • Experience as a supervisor, team lead, lead worker, OR project lead*

  • Completion of a State leadership development program, such as Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) or Senior Leadership Institute (SLI)

  • Completion of a similar or equivalent leadership development program through another organization

  • Communication skills to write correspondence and reports accurately and comprehensibly and communicate effectively with vast clientele.

  • Leadership skills sufficient to lead a team to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, or goal accomplishment.

  • Proficiency with word processing software, such as Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills.

*A project lead provides leadership, guidance, and advanced specialized technical expertise for a team doing evaluation, development, design, testing, and/or implementation in a project environment. Projects are efforts with defined phases where a combination of organizational resources including a pre-determined budget are pulled together toward a specified objective. These efforts are usually discontinued once the project is completed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment.

  • Project management, change management, quality assurance or process improvement experience, where skills were applied to develop and maintain administrative policies and procedures in a regulated setting.

  • Experience developing and presenting clearly written management reports, summaries, charts, or analyses.

  • Experience providing or presenting complex educational content to individuals and groups in an understandable way.

  • Experience working with diverse individuals in a fast-paced, hybrid team environment.
