The CFO for PERA supports the Executive Director, as a strategic business partner, in managing and leading the financial operations of the organization. The incumbent hired into this role will consult with PERA staff on complex financial matters and set critical organizational goals as a member of PERA’s Executive Team. The CFO will also provide regular information/guidance to PERA’s Board of Trustees. Lastly, the incumbent will be required to oversee several financial functional services, such as, public pension accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, risk management, tax compliance, contract administration, administrative and board support services, and member/employer records management.
This position is telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) eligible and offers a hybrid work schedule, based on agency and department needs. Scheduled in-office workdays will be at the PERA office, 60 Empire Drive, Suite 200, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years of accounting experience developing operating budgets and working with senior leadership to support effective financial management.
Experience working with Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) or similar financial and compliance reporting systems.
Experience developing and executing financial policies.
Experience with Microsoft Excel or similar software program including functions such as VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, pivot tables and sort and filter functions.
Experience in governmental Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB), risk management and internal control principles, auditing; procurement and contract management practices, and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) preparation.
Communication and presentation skills to articulate complex financial topics.
Proven leadership ability and interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships, influence decision-making, effectively motivate and manage a diverse team, and champion a work culture that advocates for inclusion.
Travel may be required up to 10% of the time for this role. Incumbent must maintain valid driver's license and insurance or have other reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business/Public Administration, or closely related field as determined by hiring authority.
Certified Public Accountant, Certified Public Finance Officer, or similar professional certification (e.g., Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Internal Auditor).
Experience in public pension plan administration.
Experience with public sector financial management.
