Position Summary:
The Converting Team Lead oversees day shift (6am to 2pm) envelope operations, ensuring safe, efficient production, high-quality output, and on-time delivery. This hands-on leadership role focuses on coaching and developing team members, driving performance, and maintaining alignment with Japs-Olson values. The Team Lead also partners cross-functionally to resolve issues, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement across the department.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Lead day shift flexo envelope converting operations (W+D presses) to ensure safe, efficient production, high quality, and on-time delivery
Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, and performance management to develop team members and drive engagement
Set clear expectations, prioritize work, and hold team members accountable to production goals and JO values
Oversee operation of flexo W+D presses; ensure jobs are run to specification
Monitor equipment performance through routine checks; troubleshoot mechanical, production, and quality issues as they arise
Ensure all products meet quality standards, including print accuracy, embossing quality, converting specs, and required documentation
Manage vendor relationships for flexo W+D equipment, including service coordination, technical support, and parts ordering
Coordinate and oversee preventative maintenance activities on envelope presses to minimize downtime and extend equipment life
Manage daily staffing, scheduling, and workflow to support production demands and coverage needs
Oversee materials and supplies specific to envelope production, coordinating internally to prevent shortages or delays
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all company policies, procedures, and trainings
Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of envelope converting team members
Drive continuous improvement by identifying process gaps and supporting standard work and efficiency initiatives
Communicate effectively across shifts, including shift turnover and participation in production and leadership meetings
Qualifications:
3–5 years of experience in envelope converting, preferably with W+D or similar envelope press equipment
3–5 years of leadership experience with direct reports, including coaching, development, and performance management
Experience coordinating with equipment vendors for service, support, and parts management preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills in a production setting
Proven ability to lead, engage, and develop teams in a fast-paced environment
Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing production needs
Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Hands-on, self-motivated leader with a customer-focused and collaborative approach
Ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment, including nights and weekends as needed
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Printing, Manufacturing, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
Continuous Improvement experience or familiarity with CI tools preferred
