Homestead and Personal Property Coordinator

Duties:
- Performs complex administrative functions requiring in-depth knowledge of county and departmental operations, accounting practices, policies, procedures, and applicable state laws.
- Responds to walk-in and telephone inquiries and provides guidance on departmental practices and procedures.
- Coordinates the exchange and verification of personal property and homestead information with local units, the State of Michigan, and other states.
- Manages personal visits and process service in compliance with tax law, including coordinating first-class and certified homestead audit mailings and completing follow-up on returned items.
- Collaborates with local treasurers and county officials to identify uncollectible personal property taxes, prepare delinquent personal property listings, schedule court petitions for tax removal, and support circuit court write-offs.
- Prepares required quarterly homestead audit reports for the State of Michigan and assists with land sale activities.

Education and Experience:
- Associate Degree in a business related field, and a minimum of one year of clerical/business office experience; OR
- High school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of three years clerical/business office experience.
- Prior experience in Treasurer's Office is preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator's license with access to a reliable vehicle throughout the course of employment.
- Candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment physical, including drug testing prior to employment.
- A background check will be performed, and employees will be fingerprinted.
