GENERAL PURPOSE: Recruit Police Officers attend a Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board approved police academy to become a certified peace officer. Police Officer Recruits are required to successfully complete the academy in order to be appointed to a fulltime police officer position.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK: Cadet Police Officer participate in an Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board approved basic training academy and other training designated by the Saint Johns Police Department to learn general duty police work. Performs related duties as assigned. Upon successful complete of training and certification as a peace officer by an Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training board the incumbent is reclassified to Police Officer with a current pay range of \$42,744 - \$54,585.
Police recruits will be required to pass each of the following tests before being appointed as a Cadet Police Officer:
- A written examination
- Oral board
- Physical agility
- Polygraph examination
- Psychological examination
- Medical examination
- POST background investigation
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Learns patrol, investigation, traffic control and safety, police methods, first aid, and community and police relations.
- Learns federal, state, and local traffic and criminal laws.
- Learns Department policies and procedures.
- Learns to prepare clear, concise, and grammatically correct reports.
- Participates in a physical fitness program to develop the physical skills necessary for the job.
- Learns proper work habits, appearance, and interpersonal skills.
