Position Summary
Safely operate a tractor-trailer combination with a capacity of at least 80,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) per DOT regulations and guidelines. Deliver freight as assigned by Logistics Coordinator. Complete all loads and assignments efficiently and on time. Assure all deliveries are completed maintaining Cox Trucking's impeccable service record. Operate all equipment (tractor, trailer, etc.) as instructed in the manufacturer's operating manual and suggested in the Cox Trucking Operational Manual. Ensure all assignments and/or trips are executed safely without damage to equipment, product or person.
Essential Job Functions
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | - Safely and efficiently drive a truck to deliver freight as | | assigned to customers. | | - Be dependable and on-time for all shifts and maintain impeccable | | attendance. | | - Comply with all DOT regulations applicable to operating a | | commercial vehicle at all times. | | - Comply with all Trucking policies and best practices at all | | times. | | - Accept loads as assigned seeking clarification if needed. | | - Maintain a respectful, open dialogue with assigned logistics | | coordinator and others in operations discussing problems or | | concerns in a timely manner to avoid misunderstandings and | | conflict. Communication is key to a driver's success. | | - Be able to perform the physical and mental requirements of the | | driver position per Cox Trucking and DOT guidelines and | | requirements. | | - Follow all fuel and idle efficiency protocol. | | - Full-time drivers must meet minimum mileage and attendance | | requirements. | | - Follow all safety regulations including but not limited to | | obeying the speed limit, Cox Trucking speed governance, never | | using electronic handheld devices while driving and all other | | laws and regulations. | | | | Key Roles and Responsibilities: | | | | --- -- | | | | | | --- -- | | | | 1. Perform a pre-trip/daily vehicle inspection. A thorough walk | | around is to be completed to ensure all equipment is in proper | | working order and capable of safe operation. This must include, | | but is not limited to, lifting the hood, checking tires, oil and | | all fluids. Look for anything unusual such as leaks or damage | | that may inhibit your ability to safely complete your trip. | | 2. Park your truck as assigned at an approved terminal or parking | | area. Trucks are not allowed to be parked at Drivers' homes. | | 3. As the face-to-face Trucking representative assure that customer | | service standards are adhered to and job is carried out in a | | professional manner. | | 4. Maintain proper hygiene and dress while on duty. This would | | include wearing a Log shirt when delivering freight. | | 5. Report to Logistics Coordinator any dispute or potential service | | failure with any customer immediately. | | 6. NEVER argue with a customer. | | 7. Assure proper documentation is signed per the Drivers' Operation | | Manual. | | 8. Assure all receipts are turned in within 24 hours. | | 9. Trip-plan. Perform assigned trip following instructions with | | particular attention to detail as it applies to following | | assigned route, trailer assignment and avoiding service errors. | | 10. If a service error does occur, promptly report it to your | | Logistics Coordinator. | | | | 11. Assure the truck maintenance schedule is adhered to by allowing | | truck availability to the shop when needed. Work together with | | the shop as a team. | | 12. It is required that all vehicle defects, accidents, traffic | | violations, or damage to the vehicle be reported in a timely and | | honest manner. | | 13. Check all load-related documentation on every assigned load to | | ensure that it is complete and accurate. | | 14. Learn to operate all in cab computers and equipment such air | | weigh scales, fuel & idling devices, Qualcomm, LYTX, ELDs. This | | allows drivers to stay in compliance with government regulations | | and exchange necessary information with Logistics Coordinators | | and other drivers. | | 15. Maintain ELDs of working hours and vehicle service and repair | | status. Always follow state and federal regulations. Assure hours | | of service regulations are strictly adhered to per applicable | | state and federal law. | | 16. Fully utilize all allowable hours of service. | | 17. Maintain medical cards and be able to pass the DOT Physical and | | Cox Trucking Fitness for Duty test. | | 18. Maneuver trucks safely into loading or unloading positions, be | | aware of the surroundings, get out and look if necessary and/or | | get help if needed from loading crews to get properly positioned. | | 19. Driver must have a full understanding of each and every load. Any | | questions should be directed to the Logistics Coordinator before | | beginning each trip. | | 20. Assure assigned route is followed keeping out of route miles | | below 2%. | | 21. Read, review and follow the Cox Trucking Operations Manual | | 22. When dealing with customers, consider the relative costs and | | benefits of potential actions and choose the most appropriate | | solution. When in doubt the Logistics Coordinator should be | | called. | | 23. Maintain strict adherence to the company Drug and Alcohol policy. | | 24. Report any prescription drug use that may affect your ability to | | drive or is on the DOT prescription drug list. | | 25. Drivers are assigned other duties including but not limited to: | | coupling and uncoupling trailer(s) from the tractor, loading and | | unloading trailer(s) (sometimes a driver may lift a heavy load or | | unload as much as 50,000 lbs. of freight after sitting for a long | | period of time without any stretching period);
