Job Title: Assistant DispatcherDepartment: Logistics / DistributionReports To: Dispatcher ManagerSchedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – Finish (Evening). Overtime may be required during high-volume periods such as holidays and summer months.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Assistant Dispatcher plays a key role in supporting daily distribution and routing operations. Working directly with and reporting to the Dispatcher Manager, this position assists in managing the order dispatching process through the company's ERP system to ensure accurate and efficient product movement to all branch locations. This role is primarily desk-based and involves working with large amounts of data on a computer screen throughout the shift. The Assistant Dispatcher will help confirm orders, route deliveries through a truck routing program, plan loads, and create the pallet builds that are executed by the warehouse picking team. Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are critical to success in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the daily order dispatching process using the company ERP system.

  • Confirm and review orders to ensure accuracy before routing and pallet creation.

  • Utilize routing software to help plan and optimize delivery routes.

  • Create and organize pallet builds that will be picked by the warehouse team.

  • Support the development and coordination of route schedules for all company branches.

  • Work closely with the Dispatcher Manager to ensure timely and accurate dispatch operations.

  • Communicate professionally with warehouse staff, drivers, and management regarding order and route updates.

  • Monitor dispatch data and identify discrepancies or potential issues.

  • Maintain organized records and documentation related to dispatching and routing.

  • Assist in troubleshooting routing or order issues as they arise.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance routing efficiency and workflow.

WORKING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Primarily a desk-based position requiring extended time working at a computer.

  • Occasionally exposed to moving machinery such as forklifts.

  • Occasionally exposed to fumes from forklifts.

  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions when dock doors are open or when assisting near loading areas.

  • Occasionally exposed to loud noise from warehouse equipment and forklift traffic.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • 1–3 years of experience in warehouse, logistics, or distribution operations preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-profile, fast-paced environment.

  • Basic math and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency with computers and common software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work with data and systems for extended periods of time.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of the organization.

  • Forklift certification preferred (company may provide certification if needed).
