Aerotek Sewing Machine Operator in St. Charles, Illinois
Industrial Sewing (Medical Devices) - $18/hr
Job Description
This role focuses on operating industrial sewing machines to manufacture high-quality medical device components in a fast-paced production environment. You will receive structured classroom training followed by hands-on mentoring on the production floor to help you learn the sewing process, meet production targets, and uphold strict quality and cleanliness standards.
Responsibilities
Operate industrial sewing machines to produce medical device parts according to established specifications and work instructions.
Participate in a structured training class on industrial sewing machines for approximately one week to learn foundational skills and procedures.
Work with an assigned mentor on the production floor after training to learn the full production process and best practices.
Set up sewing machines correctly, including threading machines with the appropriate thread and verifying proper machine settings.
Increase production output over time and work toward achieving the expected production count for each product within approximately 13 weeks.
Inspect products during and after sewing to ensure they meet defined quality and medical device standards.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and facility guidelines.
Sit for extended periods while operating industrial sewing machines and remain focused on repetitive tasks.
Monitor sewing machines during operation and promptly request assistance or contact maintenance if issues arise.
Follow all cleanliness, dress code, and safety requirements while on the production floor, including restrictions on personal items and products.
Collaborate respectfully with team members in a diverse workforce and communicate effectively using available translation tools if needed.
Consistently work at a pace that supports production goals while maintaining high attention to detail and product quality.
Essential Skills

Demonstrated experience in, or clear ability to succeed in, a fast-paced production or general labor environment.
Ability to maintain consistent focus while performing repetitive tasks and sitting for extended periods.
Ability to follow detailed instructions, training materials, and standard operating procedures.
Willingness to ask for help or involve maintenance when machine issues occur.
Reliability and punctuality to support production schedules on assigned shifts
Work Environment
This position is based in a contract manufacturing facility that specializes in medical device production, with a production floor that is approximately 75% industrial sewing machines. The environment follows clean GMP standards, and hair nets and beard nets (if applicable) are required while on the floor. The facility is not climate controlled, so temperatures can become hot during the summer months; individual fans are provided at each sewing station, and additional fans are placed throughout the production area to improve comfort. The workforce is highly diverse, with multiple languages spoken on the floor, and employees who are not fluent in English can use translation technology to support their success, particularly during sewing training. Dress and personal-item requirements include no acrylic or permanent nails, no jewelry other than plain wedding bands without stones, and no lotions or creams on the production floor. Any clear plastic water bottles used on the floor must be approved and have a locking feature, with approved bottles available for purchase on-site. Standard shift options include a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. $17/hr and a second shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.$18/hr, with the possibility of voluntary extended hours (such as earlier start times and additional Saturday hours) once individual production rates meet specified thresholds.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr.
