SPRINGVILLE CITY CORPORATION Police Officer I or II in SPRINGVILLE, Utah


Police Officer Trainee -- Entry Level -- Grade 14:


  • Starting pay $28.28/hr.
  • May advance to Police Officer I, with a pay increase of 5%, after academy and field training are completed.

Police Officer l - Grade 14:


  • Up to $38.20/hr DOE.
  • May advance to Police Officer II, with a pay increase of 5%, after one (1) year as a Police Officer I, having completed all minimum qualifications listed below, and after having submitted a written request to the Chief of Police requesting the classification advancement, and outlining the officers' qualifications.
  • Officers considered for advancement must:
    • Have a minimum of one (1) year experience as a full-time Police Officer I.
    • Have successfully completed the POST advanced officer course, or equivalent training and experience approved by Springville Police Department.
    • Have completed a minimum of thirty-two (32) hours of specialized training in a single subject approved by Springville Police Department.
    • Not be the recipient of any written reprimand or formal disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months.

Police Officer ll - Grade 16:


  • Up to $42.12/hr DOE.

Position Reports to: Sergeant   Pay Grade: 14/16
Employment Type: Full-time
Exempt/Nonexempt: Non-exempt
Description: Under the direction of the Sergeant, a Police Officer performs duties that lead to the preservation of public peace, protection of life and property, apprehension of violators of the law, enforcement of the law, traffic control, and public education or training pertaining to law enforcement. Police Officers may be assigned to any Division in the Department. * Police Officer's lives or personal safety are placed at risk.*
Duties: A Police Officer I/II must perform the following essential functions:


  • Perform duties that actively prevent or detect crime and enforce criminal statutes or ordinances of the state of Utah or any of its political subdivisions.
  • Respond to situations involving threats to public safety and make emergency decisions affecting the lives and health of others.
  • Perform duties that consist of providing community protection.
  • Answer calls for service professionally, promptly, and fairly.
  • Identify and correct hazardous situations which come to their attention, and for which they are qualified. If the nature of the hazard is such that they cannot take timely measures for its correction, they shall report or cause a report to be made to competent authority for its relief.
  • Keep abreast of changes in case law, statutory law, and in the rules and regulations of Springville Police Department and Springville City.
  • Abide by, promote, and keep the tenets of the Peace Officer Code of Ethics (Section 4-1-4).
  • Strive to eliminate opportunities for crime through diligent patrol, avoiding a set routine or pattern while on patrol, familiarizing themselves with the entire city, especially crime prone areas, and by following good patrol procedure.
  • Police officers of this department, when outside Springville City, are hereby directed to aid any law enforcement officer who may need, or who may appear to need immediate assistance in overcoming resistance to legal process; and/or in any situation wherein the safety of the law enforcement officer is involved.
  • Obey commands of ranking officers in accordance with outlines set forth in the departments Rules and Regulations.
  • Treat the public with courtesy and respect, and shall act in keeping with the Mission Statement of the Springville Police Department.

* * All other duties as shall be assigned by higher competent authority or ranking officers. Qualifications:


  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete and be LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) Utah POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified within twelve (12) months
